50th Anniversary: Keel, Tom and Donnie

October 27, 2014 —

Keels celebrate 50th together

Tom and Donnie Keel celebrated their golden anniversary with a trip down memory lane to Victoria, British Columbia. They honeymooned in Victoria after their Sept. 19, 1964, wedding in Roseburg. At that time, Tom teased his bride, saying the ferry ride to Victoria was their honeymoon “cruise.” They repeated this “cruise” on their recent trip, and then explored the history, the beautiful scenery and the Butchart Gardens.

On their return trip, the Keels stopped in Tacoma, Washington, to visit the LeMay-America’s Car Museum. It has more than 300 cars and trucks on display, so Tom especially enjoyed this. His father had the Studebaker dealership in Roseburg years ago and Tom has a few golden oldies of his own. While he has a soft spot for old cars, Donnie prefers quilting. They both enjoy time spent with family.

Tom and Donnie stopped in Portland to have lunch with one of Donnie’s sisters and her family. When the Keels returned home, they celebrated with family and friends in Roseburg. Donnie says, “After 50 golden years of partnership and love, our lives together are still blessed and guided from above.”

A native of Roseburg, Tom is a 1953 graduate of Roseburg High School. Donnie moved from Mississippi, settling in Roseburg in 1958. She graduated from Roseburg High in 1961.

The couple have two children: Vernon Keel and Rachelle Bunn, both of Sutherlin. Donnie says, “We are also blessed with three grandchildren.”
