Renewable energy topic of Lunch Bunch
The Lunch Bunch will discuss renewable sources of energy in Douglas County from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Roseburg Country Club, 5051 Garden Valley Road, Roseburg.
Guest speaker Ron Saranich will discuss sustainable supplies of biomass on public forests as a source of material for energy. He is biomass coordinator for the northwest region of the U. S. Forest Service.
Matt Krumenauer will identify programs that utilize waste wood for energy and describe policies that influence its use for electricity and space heating. He is a policy analyst with Oregon Department of Energy.
Todd Hansen will discuss how Biomass One uses waste wood to generate saleable electricity. He is fuels manager for the firm in White City.
Pre-registration for the program and buffet is due Wednesday. The fee, $20 for the program and buffet or $5 for program only, can be paid at the door. A meet ’n’ greet time is available until 10. The program is coordinated by Lunch Bunch, a long-standing discussion group in Roseburg.
The Nov. 12 program on biomass-to-energy is the third in a series of four monthly community discussions this fall on renewable energies in Douglas County. The December program will highlight an update on ocean resources for energy and the value of “smart grids” to integrate multiple renewable sources of electricity.

After a no-host lunch, a presentation will be given by Dr. Ashley Carlson, a chiropractic physician from Kaul Family Chiropractic and Massage. She will discuss conditions chiropractors treat and offer nutritional suggestions for good health. Current and retired federal employees are encouraged to attend; guests are welcome.

AWVA preps for Veterans Day
The American Women Veterans’ Association will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Hall, 406 S.E. Oak St., Roseburg.
The gathering will focus on the upcoming Veterans Day Parade in Roseburg. This year’s theme is “In honor of and in gratitude for those who liberated Kuwait.”
Several AWVA members served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, or were in-country in Kuwait.
These women will be honored as Grand Marshals of the Nov. 11 parade.
Women veterans of all eras and all branches of the military are welcome to attend, meet other women veterans and learn more about the activities of the AWVA.
