A five-vehicle accident this afternoon at Milepost 129 slowed traffic and seriously injured one person.
Three vehicles were blocking the fast lane while two other vehicles on the shoulder by the time firefighters arrived at 3:44 p.m., according to Douglas County Fire District No. 2.
The northbound vehicles were in a chain-reaction collision that began when the driver of the leading vehicle, a Ford Explorer, braked abruptly, according to the district. Why the driver slowed down was not immediately known.
Besides the seriously injured patient, two other people suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.
Their names were not immediately available.
The Oregon State Police is investigating.
