Does Bush deserve to be re-elected?

"The 2004 presidential elections are coming closer, and it is at this point when we face, sometimes, a difficult question to answer: Who will be the best person to lead this country into the next four years? I think that Bush should not be re-elected, based on his record with the economy, the nation's debt, the job outlook and the war on terrorism.

One sore point that has come up is the intelligence that was used when the U.S. was planning to go to war with Iraq. The reason that we went to war was the supposed fact that Saddam possessed weapons of mass destruction, but so far we have not found any.

As you're faced with this upcoming decision, think of a leader who can pull our nation out of debt, help us find other solutions to deal with the Middle East and the unknown threats produced by terrorists."

Drew Carson, sophomore,

"Having heard both sides argued vehemently, I find myself confused, as I'm sure many are as well. However, I do know that in being president, people are always going to question your decisions, protest against your actions and disagree with your policies. That's the beauty of a free democracy.

No matter who gets elected, there will always be someone else more deserving of the position. I guess it all comes down to this basic question: Who will do the most good for this country? It's a simple question, but one with an overwhelmingly complex answer. Is Bush deserving? I haven't decided yet. I have until November. What channel is CNN?"

Jessica Thompson, junior,

"I do not believe that George W. Bush deserves to be re-elected. In the short time that he has been president, there have been many decisions made by his administration which I do not agree with -- here is an example of just one.

Bush started a war in Iraq without permission from the United Nations, and hundreds of American soldiers' lives have been lost in the process. Not only was the war undeclared, but the president lied to our country concerning the issue of weapons of mass destruction. Iraq was never a threat, and the president knew this long before he even invaded the country.

Bush had his mind set to start a war with Iraq from the day he became president. One has to wonder if perhaps it has something to do with the situation his father created in Iraq during his presidency.

I do not believe Bush has performed to the necessary standards in order to remain our president. The American people must demand excellence from someone who is president of our country, not mediocrity and lies."

Carol Pecorilla, junior,
