<b> NEW YORK MINUTE.</b> The Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce's annual fund-raiser is tonight. The "New York, New York" summer dinner at 6 p.m. in Stewart Park in Roseburg promises an extravaganza of sights, sounds and food reminiscent of New York. An auction will feature desserts, a Broadway package to Portland to see "Miss Saigon," and tickets to see a New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners game. <b> DOIN' THE DUKE.</b> The legendary Duke Ellington Orchestra performs at 7 tonight at Riverbend Park, Winston. Under the direction of Paul Mercer Ellington, Duke Ellington's grandson, the Duke Ellington Orchestra performs jazz selections that bridge three generations. <b> ROPIN' 'EM IN.</b> The Sutherlin Stampede Rodeo races into town this weekend. The rodeo starts at 7 tonight and Saturday at Sutherlin Rodeo Grounds. The rodeo parade is 10 a.m. Saturday starting on Comstock Road and Central Avenue. Trophies will be awarded for classic, antique, roadster, custom and car club cars, in addition to floats, trucks, marching groups and horsing groups. Participants are encouraged to join the lineup at 9 a.m. on South Comstock Road. Judging begins at 9:15 a.m. There is no pre-registration and no entry fees for the event. Entertainer Mickey Rooney will serve as grand marshal of the event. At the rodeo itself, main events will include bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, team roping, calf roping, women's barrel racing, breakaway roping and four-man wild cow riding. <b> MINING FOR GOLD. </b> The Roseburg chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America hosts the inaugural Oregon Gold Miner's Jamboree from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Rivers West RV Park, off Exit 112 of Interstate 5. <b> RELAY FOR A CURE.</b> The Douglas County Relay for Life is noon Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday at Umpqua Community College, Winchester. The survivor's lap will take place at noon, followed by all teams starting their relay around the track. Teams are to have at least one member on the track at all times until 8 a.m. Sunday, when the event ends. Activities will run all day Saturday, including a torch run by the YMCA team at 8:30 p.m. and a luminaria ceremony at 9:30 p.m. Proceeds of the fund-raiser will benefit cancer research. 672-3278.
<b> TAKE ME TO THE RIVER.</b> Saturday kicks off Wilderness Week with Umpqua Watersheds hosting River Appreciation Day. The event is 1 to 8 p.m. at the Elkton Community Education Center. Music will feature such groups as Slow Ponies, Girls Can Jam, the Hotqua Swing Band and Strange Attractors, who will perform throughout the day. Foods for every palette will be available, and area artisans will showcase their craftsmanship. The entertainment schedule includes cooking with wine demonstrations and music by MR.
