REEDSPORT -- A forum will be held Saturday to discuss coastal smuggling and threats to homeland security.
Officials from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Coast Guard have scheduled the gathering, to be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the county Courthouse Annex, 680 Fir St., to develop citizen awareness of potential terrorist threats along the coast and at ports.
Oregon's remote beaches and marinas are not immune to significant criminal activities, officials said. A waterway watch program, similar to neighborhood watches, has been organized to bring residents and law enforcement officials together to share information.
Information: 440-4450.
