Schools sought to take part in mock election

The News-Review

The League of Women Voters of Oregon is seeking high school and middle school classes to participate in a mock election that will take place next month at schools across the country.

More than 10 million students took part in the past two presidential year mock elections. It is held in conjunction with a push by the League of Women Voters to encourage students to become interested in the political process and vote in national and local elections when they turn 18.

Social studies teachers wishing to participate must register their school by Friday. Classes wishing to participate should choose a coordinator, who can be a teacher, parent or school staff member. The coordinator or teacher should sign up online at www.nationalmockelection.com.

Individual schools will hold their elections between Oct. 21 and 27.

Results will need to be reported by the final day, with the national results to be announced Oct. 28.

Curriculum and classroom materials are available online at www.lwvor.org/MEIntro.htm.

Information: Contact the League of Women Voters of Oregon at (503) 581-5722 or by e-mail at lwvor@lwvor.org.
