<b>Michael Duane Buford</b>
BUFORD, Michael Duane Of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on February 5, 2004. Michael was born on January 8, 1959, at Douglas Community Hospital in Roseburg to Troy Laverne and Jimmi Robert Buford. Michaels mother and his older brother, Stephen, passed away previously. Michael is survived by his father, Jimmie Robert Buford of Eugene, Oregon; sister, Shelley J. Buford of Sutherlin, Oregon; niece, April Dawn Buford; grandniece and grandnephew of Beaverton, Oregon; loving dog, Toby; and his many friends. Michael graduated from Sutherlin High School where he was student body president and valedictorian of his class. After graduation, Michael worked for AirCal in Newport Beach, California, for several years. He then returned to Roseburg and was employed as a janitor at Sutherlin High School until his retirement. Michaels strong belief that one should be part of the solution rather than part of the problem helped him cope with illness. Michael was fully engaged in life and cherished his niece, April, his grandniece Julianne; and his many friends including, Barbara Taylor who had taken Toby into her home; his friend, Karen Tolley who always kept a chair for him at While Away Books his home away from home; Dr. Larry Bogart who gave him exemplary care, his counselor, Jenny and many others. Several months ago, Michael was in danger of losing his house to foreclosure. Numerous persons in this community contributed to a fund-raising campaign organized by Karen Tolley, Michaels good friend. The campaign was successful, foreclosure was averted and Michael was extremely grateful to the people who contributed funds and to the staff at Roseburg office of Rural Home Services. A celebration of Michael Bufords life will occur on Friday, February 20, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. at While Away Books, 932 West Harvard, Roseburg. All those who wish to celebrate Michaels life are invited. Michael has donated his body to the OHSU for research purposes. Persons wishing to remember Michael may contact Karen Tolley at While Away Books to contribute to a fund for preparing and transporting Michaels body to OHSU.
<b>Irene Holcomb</b>
HOLCOMB, Irene Gwendolyn Haines Born on July 29, 1918, in Elkton, Oregon. She passed away peacefully on February 16, 2004, in Roseburg, Oregon. She was third in a family of five girls. Irene was a resident of Douglas County all of her 85 years. She attended and graduated from Elkton Schools. She was married on June 10, 1939, to Wilbur Holcomb. Irene was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her children, Deanna and husband, Clark Hager of Winchester, Oregon; Derald and wife, Teri Holcomb of Shady Cove, Oregon; Judi and husband, Jon Kvernmo of Everett, Washington; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at the Sutherlin Assembly of God Church, 764 E. Central Ave. Sutherlin, Oregon, on Friday, February 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m.
<b>Nada Mae Laurance</b>
LAURANCE, Nada Mae Age 107, passed away on January 27, 2004, in LaMiranda, California. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 1, 1896, to parents, George and Emma VanBebber. At the age of eighteen, she married Plin Aubrey Laurance in Roseburg, Oregon. To this union were born three children, Ken; Gwen and Plin Aubrey II. They were avid farmers and owned and operated their own truck gardening business. She is survived by two sons, Ken Laurance of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Plin Laurance of Yuma, Arizona; grandchildren, Maureen Atkinson; Pat and Mike McKinney, all of California; Tom Laurance of Newport Beach; Craig Laurance of San Ramon, California; and Christine Schrock of Myrtle Creek. Preceding her in death were her husband, Plin; a daughter, Gweneth; grandsons, Michael Laurance of San Francisco, California; and most recently, Plin Arlin Laurance of Myrtle Creek on February 12, 2003. Also preceding her in death were two great-grandchildren, Lori Ann Laurance of Beverly Hills, California and Joshua Jonathon Schrock of Myrtle Creek. Graveside services were held at the Rosehill Cemetery in Whittier, California.
<b>Jane LeBeau </b>
LEBEAU, Jane Left her body at her home in Roseburg, Oregon, on February 13, 2004. Born in San Francisco, California, to Edgar and Mabel Lewis in 1915, she graduated from Galileo High School and moved to Roseburg to care for her ailing father. Jane co-owned Mabel Lewis ladies shop and created memorable window displays and fashion shows. She taught most Laurelwood children to enjoy swimming, played avid duplicate bridge, helped form the local Unitarian Church and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edgar; and her husbands, L.K. Bud Fies and Harry LeBeau. She graced the lives of her son, Bob Fies of Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico; daughter, Michelle Walker of Roseburg; grandchildren, Brian, Brenda, and Elisabeth Fies of Santa Rosa, California; Dmitri Palmateer of Salem, Oregon; Nichole Fortenberry of Anchorage, Alaska; Amy Mitchell of Eugene, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Andreas Palmateer and Laura and Robin Fies. There will be no public service. Donations may be made to Mercy Hospital Hospice.
<b>Donald D. Neely</b>
NEELY, Donald D. Age 72, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2004, in a hospital in Eugene, Oregon, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Neely was born on March 2, 1931, in Mount Ayr, Iowa, son of Marie (Shafer) and Elvis Neely. He was raised and educated in Iowa and from 1951 until 1953. He served our country while in the U.S. Marine Corps. On June 23, 1951, he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Clayton in Cromwell, Iowa. They moved to Oregon in the early 1970s, settling in Canyonville, Oregon. In 1984 they moved into Roseburg. Don was a longtime manager of the Winston, Oregon Exxon Station. He retired in the late 1990s. Survivors include a son, Brian Dean Neely and his wife, Miriam; grandson, Brian Dean Neely Jr., all of Roseburg, Oregon; two brothers, Ronald Neely and his wife, Donna of Creston, Iowa; Dale Tuffy Neely of Santa Rosa, California; two sisters, Joyce Fuller of Las Vegas, Nevada; Helen Evans and her husband, John of Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann on January 30, 1996; a brother-in-law, William Fuller, and sister-in-law, Norma Neely. Private interment will be at the Eden Cemetery near Roseburg. Memorials may be directed to Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska 68019. Arrangements are under the direction of TAYLORS FAMILY CHAPEL.
<b>William Bill Albert Rinio</b>
RINIO, William Bill Albert Age 71, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on February 15, 2004, in Roseburg, with his family by his side. He was born on April 27, 1932, in Browns Valley, Montana, to William and Louise (Dahl) Rinio. Bill graduated from Belt Valley High School in Belt, Montana. He received his B.S. Degree in Science and Math from the College of Great Falls in Montana, in 1957. Bill married his sweetheart, Carol Shelver on August 3, 1957, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. They made their home in Chinook, Montana. In August of 1962, Bill moved with his family to Roseburg. He returned to school and in 1971 Bill received his Master's Degree in Math from the University of Oregon. During the years Bill was in college, he enjoyed playing the trumpet in his own dance band. He also served eight years in the Naval Reserve. Bill's teaching career started in Chinook, where he taught Math in seventh and eighth grade and at the high school. After moving to Roseburg, in 1962, Bill taught Math at Fremont Jr. High School for seven years; he also taught Math at Roseburg High School for seven years. Bill then became Dean of Students at Fremont Jr. High School for four years; he taught Math at Jo Lane Jr. High School until he retired in 1993. While teaching at Jo Lane, Bill began also teaching Math at U.C.C. part time. When he retired in 1993 from Jo Lane, he continued to teach Math at the college until December 2003. For over 20 years, Bill also worked summers and vacations for Sun Studs, many times working side by side with his former students. Bill was first and foremost a teacher of Math. His students appreciated that he was always available for help. Impromptu tutoring sessions happened whenever he was needed. For relaxation Bill liked to raise a vegetable garden, which he shared with everyone. He was a fisherman and a hunter, and when friends needed a butcher Bill stepped forward. In later years he was so proud of his dahlia garden and he gave bouquets to everyone. As busy as he was, he always had time to share with his wife and his children. Bill gave love and friendship to everyone, a shoulder to lean on, he was a surrogate father, grandfather and uncle. Survivors include his wife, Carol Rinio of Roseburg; children, Cathy Lien and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Erik and Daniel of Tigard, Oregon; Kris Rice and husband, Randy; grandchildren, Sean, Kelly and Summer, of Roseburg; Jennifer Rinio of Oracle, Arizona; Thomas M. Rinio, of Portland, Oregon; brothers, Richard Rinio of Palmer, Alaska; Marty Rinio of Fairbanks, Alaska; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Bill in death was his sister, Betty Ann Rossmiller. A Funeral Mass will be at 6 p.m., on Friday, February 20, 2004, at St Joseph Catholic Church, 800 W. Stanton, Roseburg, with Father Eldon Schwab officiating. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Casa de Belen, 1199 NE Grandview St, Roseburg. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is in charge of arrangements.
<b>Patrick Edward Terrel</b>
TERREL, Patrick Edward Age 62, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2004, in Stockton, California. He was born to R.A. Pat and Georgia Terrel on July 15, 1941, in Merrill, Oregon. Pat resided in Stockton for the past ten years to be close to his daughters, Michelle Brown and Julie Terrel. Pat grew up in Roseburg, Oregon, and served in the Army from 1958 until 1964. After serving his country he worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Forest Service. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother and will be deeply missed by his daughters, Michelle Brown of Lodi, California; Julie Terrel of Stockton; Kellie Orleck of Parkland, Florida; sister, Sharon Stribling and husband, Laurence of Springfield, Oregon; brothers, Mike and wife, Karen of Sutherlin, Oregon; Dan and wife, Sally of Springfield; Jess and wife, Fran of Sutherlin, Oregon; and Jim of Brighton, Colorado. He will also be missed by seven grandchildren, his in-laws and many nieces and nephews, along with his many friends and of course, the republican party. A celebration of Pats life will be held at Dakota Street Pizza in Sutherlin on Friday, February 20, 2004, at 1 p.m. His remains will be placed on his Paternal Grandparents grave at Roseburg Memorial Gardens at a later date.

WALKER, David Lynell Went home to be with his Heavenly Father on February 10, 2004. He was born in Sparks, Nevada on February 4, 1938. He grew up in the Myrtle Creek, Oregon area and graduated from Myrtle Creek High School. He was a school teacher in California, but always hoped to return to Oregon, his true home. Services were held on Saturday, February 14, 2004, in Palmdale, California. Graveside services will be held at the Canyonville Masonic Cemetery on Saturday, February 21, 2004, at 3 p.m. Preceding him in death were his mother and father, Marjorie and Leslie Walker of Canyonville, Oregon. Survivors include his wife, Bertha; daughters, Farrol Martin; Cynthia Liddle; sons, Leslie Walker and Gary Walker, all of California. Also surviving are five sisters and four brothers, Barbara Bentson of Lynnwood, Washington; Alyne Ables of Myrtle Creek; Bennie Walker of Las Vegas, Nevada; Harmon Walker of Roseburg, Oregon; Lawrence Walker of Sylmar, California; Robert Walker of Winston; Sandra Ke of Olympia, Washington; Martha Burt of Denver, Colorado; Isabelle Fowler of Olympia, Washington; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
