			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>MERIDIAN, Idaho - The Roseburg All-Stars 12-U girls softball team, which won the state tournament recently at Gaddis Park in Roseburg, ran into some strong competition in the regional tournament last week.<br />Roseburg only went 1-5 at regionals, but manager Chris McCullough noted his club allowed the fewest runs (29) of any team over six games. Roseburg played teams from Meridian, Twin Falls (Idaho), Ellensburg, Othello and Hoquiam (Wash.). Othello defeated Hoquiam 11-10 in the championship game.<br />Roseburg finished with a postseason record of 12-9, defeating Upper Rogue of Medford to win the state title.<br />The team was comprised of Carly McCullough, Mikala Dupper, Alysha Epley, Ally Schofield, Rylee Holcomb, Lindsay Allen, Dallas Rincon, Baylee White, Skyler Coate, Cidny Dupper, Josie Walls and Bethany Fromdahl. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>KLAMATH FALLS - Brandon Jackson pitched into the ninth inning and Dr. Stewart's had big innings in the second and seventh to defeat host Klamath Falls 7-5 in the opening game of the American Legion AAA state tournament Wednesday at Kiger Stadium.<br />The Docs (24-12) advance to play Salem Post 9 on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Highwaymen upset defending state champion Richey's Market, 11-10 earlier Wednesday.<br />Jackson pitched 8 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits, striking out 10 and walking none. He left after Jake Whisler's single that put the tying runs aboard for the Falcons. "Last year was last year, so we don't really think of it as defending a state title. We want to win our own."<br />The Bottlecaps will get that chance starting this week in Eugene. Pepsi (19-6 overall), which finished as the Area 4 North champs with a 15-5 league record, will open up against Area 4 South foe Central Point at 3 p.m. Thursday.<br />The Bottlecaps won handily last year in the only matchup between the teams. Spencer Cox received the Gold Boot Award as the tourney's top scorer, while Chris Timm and goalie Sam Hervey anchored the defense. Also playing well were attackers Garrick Knowles, Luke Hammer and George Bourdages.<br /><br />BEAVERTON<br />Landsharks compete<br />The Landsharks U-12 soccer team participated in the Adidas Beaverton Cup soccer tournament on July 16-18.<br />The team played four games. Following pool play on Friday and Saturday the Landsharks were defeated 3-0 in the consolation final. Scoring in the tournament were Connor Cubic (two goals) and Mackenzie Short (one). Van Anrooy will be a sophomore at Roseburg High this fall.<br />In the Junior Greco-Roman tournament, Seth Thomas finished sixth at 160 after losing to Lee Wildes of Florida in the fifth-place match. Drew Van Anrooy placed seventh at 130 with a decision over Matt Kelliher of Minnesota. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>PORTLAND - Paul Brothers, who quarterbacked Roseburg High to its first state football title in 1961 and went on to become Oregon State University's starting signal-caller for three seasons, is one of eight inductees into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame & Museum.<br />Brothers graduated from RHS in 1963 and OSU in 1967, and played in the Canadian Football League. He quarterbacked the Beavers' 1965 Rose Bowl team, the last OSU club to make it to Pasadena.<br />He was selected Roseburg High's Player of the Century by The News-Review in 2001 when the newspaper selected an all-time RHS football team.<br />He's now a successful high school girls basketball coach at Willamette in Eugene.<br />Other members of the 2010 class are former McMinnville and Beaverton boys basketball coach Nick Robertson, the brother of the late Stew Robertson, the former RHS boys basketball coach; Brian Henniger, a USC golf All-American and PGA professional; Joy Selig Petersen, an NCAA champion gymnast </div></div></div>]]></description>

"We went through a lot of emotional highs and lows from the first game to the last game. "I didn't want to do anything too risky. I had to get through some lapped cars, but I knew I was pretty safe with just a few laps to go before the finish."<br />Scevers, a former local sprinter who now races out of Crescent, led the first 27 laps. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>CANBY - Damion Henderson pitched a complete game and Beau Grauf hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, helping Sutherlin defeat McNary of Keizer 4-1 in the championship game of the Oregon Junior State Division II baseball tournament on Sunday night at Canby High School.<br />The Bulldogs (23-4) took the lead for good on Grauf's round-tripper, his third of the tournament. Henderson added a sacrifice fly and Tyler Sulffridge contributed an RBI single in the fifth as Sutherlin went 4-0 in the tournament.<br />"That (Grauf's hit) was huge for us," said Sutherlin coach Josh Riley, whose club went down in order the first three innings.<br />Henderson, the winning pitcher in Sutherlin's first-round win over Corvallis Thursday, scattered seven hits and only gave up an unearned run. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>NEWBERG - After three days, 31 innings and umpteen comebacks, Dr. Stewart's is headed to the AAA American Legion state tournament.<br />The Docs beat Newberg Abby's Pizza 14-11 in 11 inning on Sunday morning in the completion of a super regional game suspended by darkness late Saturday night.<br />Cameron Newell hit a two-run single in the top of the 11th to break an 11-all tie, and Josh Graham added a RBI single. <br />Austin Marsh retired the first batter he faced in the 11th but walked the next two and the Docs went to reliever Dakota Cavens. He induced a deep flyout to left but walked Brian Symonds to load the bases and bring the potential winning run to the plate.<br />Then Cavens struck out Emmett Ackerlund to end the epic game and send Roseburg to the state tournament.<br />"It's been a long, hard weekend and these kids played with a lot of heart and emotion," Dr. Stewart's coach Scott Shaver told KSKR radio. The winner advances to the state tournament in Klamath Falls starting Wednesday while the loser's season will be done. The remaining tournament spots were filled Saturday.<br />"The whole story of the season comes down to how we play," Dr. Stewart's coach Scott Shaver said. "We're going to play every inning like it's our last because it could be. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>CANBY - The Sutherlin Junior State baseball team is right where it hoped to be - in the state championship game.<br />The Bulldogs advanced to the final of the Oregon Junior State Division II tournament with a 13-5 victory over Wilson of Portland on Saturday night in a semifinal game at Canby High School.<br />Sutherlin (22-4) is 3-0 in the tournament and will play McNary of Keizer at 6 tonight for the title. McNary defeated West Salem 9-6 in the other semifinal.<br />"We've been chasing a title since the beginning of the season," said Sutherlin coach Josh Riley. "Anytime you make it to the championship game you're going to be facing a tough opponent, but I feel our kids are confident and ready to go. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>NEWBERG - A usually slick-fielding Dr. Stewart's team spotted Newberg Abby's seven unearned runs off four errors Friday evening in an 8-7, 11-inning loss in the American Legion super regionals.<br />The Docs now find themselves in an elimination game against Pendelton's Hodgen Distributing Saturday at 9:30 a.m.<br />Dr. Stewart's comitted three consecutive errors in the bottom of the third and Newberg took complete advantage, scoring all three baserunners. The first seven Abby's batter reached safely, including Trevor Terranova's bases-clearing double to to make it 6-0.<br />Roseburg rallied to send the game into extra innings, but Kyle Jaukkuri's RBI sacrifice fly to score Cameron Newell to tie the game in the top of the ninth would have been the winning run had the Docs not given up another unearned run in the sixth.<br />In the bottom of the 11th inning, Newberg's Ray Gardner walked to lead off and was sacrificed to second. 			<description><![CDATA[<div id='bodyContainer'><div id='mainBody'>			<div id='story'>CANBY - After allowing its opponent to hang for a while, Dallas emphatically closed the door on the game and the season for Douglas with a 10-0 win in five innings Friday in the Oregon Junior State baseball tournament.<br />Dallas, which scattered six hits through the first four innings, broke out with a seven-run fifth that included five hits, three walks and two errors.<br />"It was a pretty good ballgame for four innings, but the dam broke, so to speak," Douglas coach Kevin Wilson said. "We had kept the damage down up to that point, but they really shut the door on us."<br />Douglas was limited to two hits in the contest, including a double by Riley Lavin.
