North Douglas High School, Oakland High School, Phoenix School, Reedsport High School



NORTH DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL

North Douglas High School will hold commencement exercises at 2 p.m. June 8 in the North Douglas High School Gymnasium.

North Douglas has named two graduates as valedictorian and one as salutatorian and they are: Charlene Bachman, daughter of John Bachman of Drain and Valerie Bachman of Drain, will be co-valedictorian and has maintained a GPA of 3.79. She has been co-captain in varsity cheerleading, chapter president of Future Business Leaders of America and is a member of the National Honor Society. Charlene plans to attend Oregon State University and major in pharmacology.

Melissa Reel, daughter of Mike and Rhonda Rasmussen of Drain and Joe and Susan Reel of Drain, will be co-valedictorian and has maintained a GPA of 3.79. She has participated in volleyball, was editor of the school yearbook and is a member of the National Honor Society. Melissa plans to attend Umpqua Community College in the fall.

Tabbatha Ward, daughter of Teresa Ward of Drain, will be salutatorian, and has maintained a GPA of 3.62. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and is student body secretary. She has received the Social Sciences Award, and was chosen Register-Guard Student of the Month. Tabbatha plans to attend college after graduation, and work in the field of her training.

OAKLAND HIGH SCHOOL

Oakland High School will hold commencement exercises at 5:30 p.m. June 8 in the Umpqua Community College's Jacoby Auditorium.

Oakland High School has named three graduates as valedictorians. They are:

Ashley Damond, daughter of Paul and Susie Damond, will be co-valedictorian and has maintained a GPA of 4.0. Her school activities have included varsity basketball and volleyball, and executive student body student council. She was also awarded student of the year for English, foreign language, geography and math. She plans on attending the University of Puget Sound, followed by medical school to pursue a surgical career.

Lindsay Gorham, daughter of Ginger Gorham of Umpqua, will be co-valedictorian and has maintained a GPA of 4.0. Her extracurricular activities and awards include track and field scholar athlete, volleyball scholar athlete, Ecology Club and school band. She plans on attending Nichols College in Massachusetts and studying sport management.

Amanda Jean Wilson, daughter of Leslie Wilson of Canyonville and Theresa Brumley of Montana, will be co-valedictorian and has maintained a GPA of 4.0. Her school activities have included FFA president, student council secretary, National Honor Society president, varsity volleyball and band. She has received an Air Force ROTC scholarship and plans on attending Oregon State University to major in chemical engineering.

Emily Young, daughter of Kathy and Bob Young of Oakland, will be salutatorian and has maintained a GPA of 3.98. Her activities have included youth group, FFA, track, Ecology Club, and pep band. She plans on attending Seattle Pacific University to attain a bachelor's degree in nursing. She then hopes to begin a career as a registered nurse following college.

REEDSPORT HIGH SCHOOL

Reedsport High School will hold commencement exercises at 2 p.m. June 9 in the Reedsport High School gymnasium. Commencement speaker will be Steve Pepiot.

Senior recognition night will be held at 7 p.m. May 28 at Pacific Auditorium.

Senior sports awards night will be held at 7 p.m. May 30, also at Pacific Auditorium.

Valedictorian is Madeline Boe. She is the daughter of Eric and Janet Boe. While attending Reedsport High she was class president for all four years, member of National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and Knowledge Bowl. She was also active in swimming, track, band, drama, and yearbook. Outside school, she also works for the Umpqua Post Newspaper, teaches Aquasize, and lifeguards at the local pool. She plans on attending Oregon State University and majoring in nuclear engineering.

Salutatorian is Jamie McWilliams. He is the son of Ed and Patricia McWilliams. His school activities and awards have included ASB president and vice-president, Future Business Leaders of America, Key Club member and president, Teen-to-Teen program, and Boys State delegate. He also received 10 varsity letters which included: three golf, three football, two basketball, one track and one cross country. He worked at Taco Time around going to school and activities. He plans on attending Southern Oregon University and majoring in business.
