The News-Review and the Roseburg Kiwanis Club are once again sponsoring the Douglas County Spelling Bee on Saturday, April 24 at Wildlife Safari. Below are study words for the 2004 Bee. Words will appear every Monday on the Schools Page. The County Spelling Bee champion will go home with a trophy and new computer system.
Trophies and prizes will also be awarded through fourth place.
All districts, private schools, and home schooled students in the fifth through eighth grades are invited to participate. Students wishing to enter elimination rounds in their district need to sign up with their school's spelling bee coordinator. Home schooled students should contact the Home School Spelling Bee Coordinator at 679-1251.

<b>nymphal.</b> Of, relating to, or being an insect in the late larval stage of development. The spinose ear tick attaches inside an animal's ear during the parasitic larval and nymphal stages.
<b>parfait.</b> A cold dessert consisting of alternating layers of fruit, syrup, ice cream and whipped cream. Following a light lunch, Carmen ordered a parfait of tropical fruits.
<b>replicate.</b> Duplicate, repeat. For an experiment to be considered valid, scientists must be able to replicate it independently.
<b>unvaccinated.</b> Not being inoculated with a vaccine in order to produce immunity. The injured, unvaccinated horse was given a tetanus antitoxin shot.
