After the ground stops shaking, a new $1.5 million business complex will be going up in Roseburg.
Blasting began last week at 1570 N.W. Garden Valley Boulevard to clear space for a new 11,000-square-foot building owned by Wayne and Debbie Bratton. Debbie Bratton owns American Home Lending, which will move a few blocks to the new complex.
Also making the move will be Ticor Title, Farmers Insurance and a hair salon, with space available for one more tenant.
"We should be breaking ground in the next couple of weeks with hopefully an early spring completion," Debbie Bratton said.
There are three more blasts using controlled explosives planned to clear rock from the hillside where the building will stand, according to Clay Baumgartner, acting Roseburg public works director. A date for the next one is not yet set.
The reason for American Home Lending's move, Bratton said, is the company has outgrown its current home. Several new hirings are planned following the move.

CRAZY LIKE A GAME: Roseburg will be going video game crazy in October.
A Game Crazy store, selling new and used video games, systems and accessories, is opening inside Garden Valley Boulevard's Hollywood Video Oct. 22.
Though both are divisions of Wilsonville-based Hollywood Entertainment, Game Crazy is a separate company from the video rental giant.
Construction will begin Oct. 17 on the gaming store's new headquarters, one of more than 700 nationwide.
"One of the unique things about Game Crazy ... you can play any of the titles that we have in the store before you buy them," said store manager Bill Jordan. "You can actually pull them off the shelf and play them."
There will be six employees, along with Jordan. For information, call (800) 567-1991 or go to www.gamecrazy.com.
EATING RIGHT ONLINE: Susan Singer is taking her dietitian experience to the Internet.
Springer, who has worked for Mercy Medical Center and the Douglas County Health Department, will launch www.HealthOurTreasure.com by Monday.
Health Our Treasure will offer online menus and recipes for healthy eating. Menus will list meals by the day or week and include many original recipes available well in advance, as Springer even has suitable Thanksgiving feast plans ready.
There's also a feature to customize shopping lists online for clients. Red Acorn Design created the site.
Springer, working with friend Beverly Wakefield, has been putting this project together since February. Springer, at that time, took a Web development class at Umpqua Community College, but decided the design aspect wasn't for her.
"I basically wanted to focus on menus and not on programming," she said.
Information: www.healthourtreasure.com or 673-4583.
LIST-A-MANIA: October's issue of Oregon Business is out and it's loaded with lists. It's also filled with Douglas County companies and executives.
Several of the rankings are carry-overs from previous issues, but it's nice to again see familiar names like Umpqua Bank listed as the state's top company to work for and Roseburg Forest Products as Oregon's fifth-largest privately held company.
Several locals made the 50 great leaders section, called "The Oregon Business go-to team for 2005." Brian Brush, president and chief executive officer of Roseburg's North River Boats, made the squad, as did Norm Smith, president and CEO of the Ford Family Foundation in Roseburg.
Also getting in on the action, Mercy HealthCare is listed 26th for Oregon's top large companies to work for. On the smaller company side, Credit Services of Oregon, ADAPT, Creative Images and Lone Rock Timber, all of Roseburg, made the top 50.
The magazine is $3. To see the rest, including the salary of Umpqua Bank's top executive, go buy it.
