Truck spills human feces all over roadway

WILBUR: A California man was cited after he spilled a large quantity of human fecal matter onto Old Highway 99 North near Rogers Road on Monday night.

Danny Lloyd Peets, 45, of Arcata, Calif., told police he was driving north on the highway in a 1995 Peterbilt when another vehicle pulled out in front of him around 11:50 p.m., according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Peets reportedly hit his brakes, causing approximately 20 cubic yards of human waste to slop over onto the roadway, according to police and fire accounts. Peets had been on his way to the nearby sewage treatment lagoons where the material was to be dumped and treated.

Initially unsure how to dispose of the waste, authorities called firefighters to see if they would hose it down into the nearby ditch. However, firefighters were concerned about what might happen if the material seeped into the ground, so authorities brought out a snowplow to push it into the ditch and spread sand onto the road until the trucking company could arrive to clean it up, according to a Sutherlin firefighter.

The other vehicle was never located, and Peets was cited for having a leaking load.
