'Boston Rob' backs out of 'Survivor' show

DOUGLAS COUNTY: Due to a family situation, Robert "Boston Rob" Mariano will not be attending the "Survival Beach Bash!" in Roseburg this November.

Mariano had been one of three "Survivor: All Stars" contestants scheduled to appear at the Nov. 13 fund-raiser. With his cancellation, another surprise contestant will take his place. Two other celebrities, Rupert Boneham and Rudy Boesch, are still scheduled to attend.

The event is designed as a fund-raiser for the future skate/bike park in Winston. It will take place at 6 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds and will feature games, rewards and a seafood cioppino dinner.

Tickets cost $50 each and are available at PremierWest banks, Safeway stores and O'Farrell's.

Information: 784-2143.
