From carnivals and costume balls to dances and church-related events, a variety of Halloween activities are taking place this weekend throughout the county.
The list below reflects some of the featured entertainment:
<b>TODAY
HALLOWEEN PARTY</b> -- 4 to 8 p.m., Riverview Terrace, 1970 W. Harvard Ave., Roseburg. Featuring trick or treat festivities. Candy will be given away to trick or treaters. 672-2500.
<b> NEEWOLLAH PARADE</b> -- 4:45 p.m., Douglas County Courthouse and Jackson Street in Roseburg. Roseburg-area children of all ages are invited to participate in the parade, which will travel west on Douglas Avenue to Jackson Street, heading south to Lane Street and back again to the courthouse. Roseburg Town Center businesses will have candy available for trick or treaters. All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. 672-1235.
<b> YMCA CARNIVAL</b> -- 5 to 7 p.m., Central Douglas County Family YMCA, Roseburg. Featuring games, costume parades and collecting candy in a safe, festive venue. Admission is $3 per family. 440-1936.
<b> HAUNTED HOUSE</b> -- 7 to 10 p.m., the Pavilion at Riverbend Park, off Thompson Avenue, Winston. Cost is $2 per person. All proceeds will be shared by the Douglas High School Drama Club and Winston Middle School PST to be used for student reward programs.
<b>SATURDAY
DAY OF THE DEAD</b>-- 10 a.m. to noon, Umpqua Unitarian Universalist Church, 2165 N.W. Watters St., Roseburg. For children between the ages of 5 to 12. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos or mementos of loved ones or pets that have died to help honor them. Free admission. 672-2250.
<b> PUMPKIN PATCH</b> -- Noon to 5 p.m., 300 Snowberry Road, Melrose. The event will include many activities for the family, including train rides, a pumpkin catapult, pumpkin carriage rides, face painting and pumpkin gathering. The fund-raiser will benefit Camp Millennium. 672-3432.
<b> FALL HARVEST CARNIVAL</b> -- Noon to 5 p.m., Sutherlin West Intermediate School, 531 N. Comstock Road. There will be a cake walk, face painting, fish throwing, pumpkin bowling, pony rides and a petting zoo. A costume fashion show will be at 1 p.m. and a zany zucchini contest at 2 p.m. There will be an art show all day. Cost is $3 per person or $10 for a family of four. Activity tickets are 10 cents each. All participants are encouraged to follow a sports theme. 459-3688.
<b> COSTUME SKATE</b> -- 2 to 4 p.m., 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Parkview Skating Center, 115-A Stewart Parkway, Roseburg. Featuring a costume contest. Free candy will be given to all skaters. Admission is $4.50, which includes renting quad skates. In-line skate rentals cost $2. 672-1062, 957-8436.
<b> HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN DECORATING</b> -- 3:30 to 5 p.m., St. George's Episcopal Church, 1024 S.E. Cass Ave., Roseburg. The pumpkin carving and painting party is for people of all ages. <b> SPOOKY, KOOKY SAFARI</b> -- 5 to 8 p.m., Safari Village at the Wildlife Safari, Winston. Featuring a fortune teller, a 6 p.m. animal show, a ride on the lunatic express for $1, the mad scientist's laboratory, games, crafts and more. The event is free. The safari will also be open for tours between 6 and 9 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children between 4 to 12. <b> WITCHES BALL</b> -- 7 p.m., American Legion Hall, Roseburg. The ball will include live music by ZZYYXX, a costume contest, a pumpkin contest, door prizes and catered goodies. A children's area will also feature games and prizes. This year's costume theme is "Of the Mystic Realm." The suggested donation is $4 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. These three locations will have goodies for trick or treaters. Trick or treating will also take place at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg at the same time. Mercy employees will lead parents and children through the hospital hallways, collecting candy along the way. All trick or treating events are free.
