Honors: Pollyana Lind

Pollyanna Lind, a graduate student at the University of Oregon, received a $2,000 scholarship from The North Umpqua Foundation.

Lind is a geology student who is studying fluvial geomorphology to look at aspects such as watersheds, erosion and deposition associated with rivers.

She will write her thesis about the Sprague River located in the Klamath Basin. A collaborative effort is under way at the river to fund and implement restoration projects that will benefit the community, river and fish.

Lind is a 1988 graduate of Douglas High School in Winston and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon in 1993 in general science.

The foundation assists Douglas County students pursuing careers in fisheries science, aquatic ecology or other related fisheries fields. The scholarship was established by Paul and Lory Utz and is part of the foundation's river conservation education program.
