Keith Dale Husen
HUSEN, Keith Dale On March 19, 2005, Keith Dale Husen gathered his family and said his last goodbyes. For more than 10 years he had valiantly battled cancer with courage and the determination to overcome it. Even with his positive outlook, it just wasn't enough. . . Keith was born to Minnie (Pollock) and Carl Husen in Grants Pass, Oregon, on the 30th of September, 1928. He and his brother, Carl Calvin Husen, who survives, were the fourth generation of the Pollock family to be born and raised north of Grants Pass in the Jump-Off-Joe Creek area. Keith met Evelyn Waffle while life guarding on the Rogue River one summer. He was completing a teaching degree at Southern Oregon College. They married in 1950 and he was called to serve two years in the U.S. Army in Seoul, Korea. Upon completion of his tour, he returned home to Evelyn and his teaching career. They would have celebrated their 55th anniversary in June. Keith taught school for 36 years in the Roseburg and Winston, Oregon, school districts. He also enjoyed coaching sports. He and Evelyn raised two sons in the rural Olalla area near Winston. Keith gave inspiration to his sons, Marvin Keith and Rollie Dale, with his fondness for community activities, fundraisers, helping friends and neighbors and teaching. Keith found goodness and beauty in all things natural. He enjoyed gardening and raising livestock and had a special love for horses and watching them run on the ranch. During this time, Keith served as President of the Tenmile PTA and was often called upon for his carpentry skills to construct booths for the annual carnivals. He led 4-H clubs for 12 years, instructing his kids and many others in the community in the proper care and feeding of livestock. His Olalla Papagos won many awards at the county and state fairs. Keith will be missed by those whose lives he touched in his uniquely strong and gentle way, especially his boys, their wives, and his six grandchildren. It has always been a real pleasure and sense of pride for them to hear, while in a store, restaurant, or even a hospital, "Hey, aren't you Mr. Husen?" or " I was in your class at Joseph Lane (or Green or Winston Jr. High). You were my favorite teacher! You made me want to learn! You showed me I could! And of course he was Keith Husen and he remembered each and every one of them. Yes, Keith was a strong, kind and gentle father and husband to the end. We all love you Dad. Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, March 25, 2005, at Taylor's Family Chapel, 245 S.W. Main St., Winston.
