The oldest downtown retail store offers old-fashioned service and excellent products

Roseburg Book & Stationery has been serving Douglas County businesses and individuals for 95 years. Starting out in 1910 as Roseburg Book, the name and its scope of business has changed over the years.

In 1993, long-time employee, Gary Quist, and his wife, Janice Quist, bought the business from David Morgan. Over the years the store has grown into a full service office supply store located at 549 S.E. Jackson Street in historic downtown Roseburg.

In addition to selling Hallmark cards and gifts, Roseburg Book and Stationary is the place to go for office supplies and a wide array of products including scrapbook supplies and creative rubber stamps.

Employees at Roseburg Book and Stationary are proud to provide the same high-quality, personalized service that the original owner R.C.H. Wood offered his customers when the doors first opened in 1910

M.J. Shoemaker and his son, S.J. Shoemaker, purchased the store in 1922.

They hired Vera Wilson in 1934. Wilson remains a loyal and dedicated staff member today. She may be as well recognized as the historic store she works in.

Chester Morgan bought the store in 1946 and the current owner, Gary Quist, joined the store in 1973. In 1981, David Morgan, Chester's son, became proprietor.

Today, the 6,000-square-foot store is still reminiscent of an old-fashioned downtown retail store and is the oldest retail store still operating. Roseburg Book and Stationary is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Gary and Janice Quist can be reached at the store at (541) 673-5356, or by e-mail at rsbgbook@roseburgbook.com.
