It started as a part time job run out of an extra bedroom and has become a full-time enterprise for a local family.
Bunnell's Overhead Door, Inc. began in 1983 with some financing and a dream that has grown on Pam Bunnell. A garage-door company wasn't exactly what she had in mind for a personal dream, she said, but it has all been worthwhile.
"After you get it going, there is a sense of pride that you made a success out of something you started from scratch," she said. "Another reason I enjoy it so much is because I'm a people person. I enjoy working with the public"
Bunnell said her youngest son Jason, 27, is a crew leader. Her father, Don Heimburger is an extra arm in time of need. Her husband, Kevin Bunnell, is a problem-solving magician who is good with his hands and clever with solutions that satisfy any customer.
"Kevin just has a way of looking at any situation and he figures out a way to make everything work and work properly," Bunnell said. "He's been hired as a consultant for construction projects all over the West."
The company specializes in sales and installation of commercial and residential overhead doors, continuous gutters and related products. The company features Wayne Dalton products and commercial steel doors by R & S Manufacturing.
"We've outgrown our current space and we're looking for a new location for a showroom and warehouse," she said. "Things are really growing in Roseburg."
Bunnell's Overhead Door is now located at 991 N.W. Highland Street.
The extended Bunnell's family includes 11 full-time employees and part-timers during the busy season. Vern Dykstra is a lead door installer, along with Jason Bunnell. Robert Clark, Jim Lewis, Mark Brown and Dilan Martin make up the gutter crew. Joan Kosderka schedules gutter installations and answers phones. Pam Bunnell describes the indispensable Sherry Meredith as "our girl Friday."
"Customer service is very important to the success of our business. We value the people of Douglas County and thank you all for helping our business grow," Pam said. "You are the key to our success."
