Baseball: Riddle, Glendale keep playoff hopes alive

Riddle 11 - 10

Butte Falls 1 - 0

RIDDLE -- The Riddle High baseball team kept its Southern Cascade League playoff hopes alive on Saturday, defeating Butte Falls 11-1 and 10-0 at home to improve to 6-6 in league play (11-9 overall).

The Irish totaled nine basehits in game one, and had eight more in game two, while pitchers Brett Swett and Mike Roy combined to throw a perfect game in the nightcap.

Riddle's game one pitcher, Dustin Lewis, had an equally solid outing on Saturday, striking out three and allowing just one hit to pick up his first league victory.

The Irish offense also did its part, putting up three or more runs in four of the 11 innings played.

Tyler Ross was 2-for-3 with three RBIs in game one, and 2-for-4 with three RBIs in game two. Also in game one, Swett was (2-for-4, two RBIs) and TJ Ramos (2-for-4).

Joining Ross in the game-two hitting parade were Chad Hanson (2-for-4), Sam Broggi (2-for-3), and Roy (2-for-2, two RBI).

"I felt we should have hit the ball better today, but it didn't take a lot of runs," Titus said. "Pitching was the name of the game today."

The Irish must sweep Bonanza in a Tuesday twin bill to have a shot at the No. 4 seed in the SCL. The district tournament will begin Friday.

Glendale 11-6

Cascade Christian 1-15

GLENDALE-- A barrage of offense from both the Glendale and Cascade Christian baseball teams resulted in a split doubleheader Saturday in Southern Cascade League play.

In the first game, pitcher Ben Fleming gave up just one run, allowed four hits and struck out six batters and improved to 8-2 on the year for Glendale.

Fleming also collected two hits as did teammates Bret Prock and James Henry. Joel Snelling finished with three hits to lead the Pirates.

Game two was a reversal of the first as Challengers scored in all but one inning.

The Pirates have just one doubleheader remaining as they face Lost River Monday at home.

If they can win at least one game there will be a league playoff between those two teams later on in the week.

If Lost River sweeps, it will tie Lakeview for the SCL title. There'll then be no league playoffs and Glendale's season will be over.
