ROSEBURG: A U.S. Bank fund has been set up by the family of a Roseburg woman who remains in serious condition at a Portland hospital after a head-on collision Saturday night on Southeast Stephens Street in Roseburg.
Janice L. Withrow, 50, suffered three broken vertebrae in her neck, broken ribs, a fractured ankle and other injuries, said her sister-in-law Eileen Darby.
She was driving south in a 1997 Plymouth sedan with her 13-year-old stepson, Dalton Withrow when a 1988 Chevrolet van driven by Jose L. Ramirez, 34, of Roseburg, collided with the vehicle at 10:25 p.m., according to a Roseburg Police Department report.
Ramirez and Janice Withrow were transported to Mercy Medical Center and taken by Life Flight to Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center. Ramirez was listed in good condition this morning and Withrow was in serious condition, a hospital spokesman said. Withrow's stepson was treated and released from Mercy Medical Center earlier this week.
Roseburg police Sgt. Aaron Dunbar said police are still waiting for the results of a blood alcohol test for Ramirez, who a witness said was driving his vehicle into parked cars in the parking lot at the Sugar Pine Inn tavern before the accident.
People can donate to the account at any U.S. Bank branch.
Darby isn't sure if Withrow has medical insurance, but said the medical costs will far exceed what insurance would cover.
