CANYONVILLE: Four California residents were injured Saturday when the tire of the van they were in blew out, causing the driver to lose control, according to the Oregon State Police
Timothy James Schaaff, 16, of Lancaster, Calif., was driving a 1994 Ford Aerostar van and pulling a trailer south on Interstate 5 at Milepost 99 near Canyonville at about 5:50 p.m. when the right rear tire blew out. The vehicle hit the right bank, causing the trailer to come loose. The van rolled on its left side, and the trailer stayed upright and came to rest on the right shoulder.
Two passengers, Edwin Ortiz, 24, and Daniel Benjamin Schaaff, 21, both of Lancaster, were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg. Ortiz was listed in good condition this morning, according to a hospital spokesman. Schaaff's condition was not available.
The driver and another passenger, Justin Ray Goleno, 20, received minor injuries but did not go to the hospital.
