SUTHERLIN: Elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside a Sutherlin bank prompted firefighters to evacuate the building Wednesday afternoon.
Sutherlin Fire Chief Barry Hutchings said a faulty furnace was releasing the gas inside Umpqua Bank on Central Avenue Wednesday morning. A furnace specialist fixed the problem, and the bank opened for an hour in late afternoon and is open today, according to a bank spokeswoman.
Everyone was evacuated and was reportedly fine, Hutchings said. He said some employees complained of headaches and visited the hospital on their own.
