CANYONVILLE: Rogers Feed Store has been getting calls from worried customers about Diamond brand dog food.
The company issued a recall of its dog food sold in 23 states, but Oregon is not one of them. All of the affected states are located in the South and on the East Coast, according to the Diamond Pet Foods Company Web site.
"We've had a lot of inquiries," store owner Jerry Rogers said. "It doesn't affect our state of Oregon or the West Coast."
Rogers gets Diamond dog food through Central Point Grange Co-op, and he contacted the supplier to make sure the food was safe. The food in his store is made at a plant in California.
The dog food produced at the Gaston, S.C., plant was contaminated with aflatoxin, a naturally occurring chemical that comes from a fungus sometimes found on corn and other crops. It can cause severe liver damage, and nearly two dozen dogs died after eating the food.
