Still feeling the sting of Thursday's dual-meet loss to Eagle Point, the third-ranked Roseburg High wrestling team looked to rebound Saturday when it hosted five top programs for the Roseburg Duals.
The Indians squared off against second-ranked Redmond, 11th-ranked Hermiston, Clackamas, Churchill and Sweet Home at the all-day tournament. And when all the dust had settled, the Tribe came away with four dual victories.
"Some of our kids were still down from Thursday and they did a good job making up for a poor performance," coach Steve Lander said. "Everyone had their moments and we seem to be back on track emotionally."
Five Indians wrestlers finished the day undefeated: Tyler Lander at 103 pounds, Mitchell Lofstedt at 112, Aaron Suggs at 119, Jake Spears at 130 and Jason Troxel at 215.
Roseburg (13-2 overall) started the day with a 70-3 win over Churchill. After a tough 37-24 loss to Hermiston in round two, the Indians shut out Clackamas 74-0 and then beat Redmond, 45-26. The Tribe finished the day with a 45-18 win over Sweet Home, the 11th-ranked team at Class 3A.
"The Hermiston match was a reenactment of Thursday," Lander said. "They came out a little more aggressive. But our kids responded well, especially against a tough Redmond team."
The match with the Panthers started at 152, where Roseburg's Dustin Bryson won an 8-4 decision. Redmond went ahead 10-3 with wins at 160 and 171, but Roseburg won the next six decisions, which included wins by Troxel, Luke Sugrue (275), Tyler Lander, Lofstedt and Suggs.
"It was real close at the start but we got the momentum and kept it going," coach Lander said.
The Indians' next test is Wednesday at 15th-ranked North Medford.
