Elsie A. (Otto) Charon

CHARON, Elsie A. (Otto) " Passed to her eternal reward at the age of 92 on March 6, 2006, at 5:15 p.m., at the Callahan Village Retirement Center. Elsie was born in Alsen, North Dakota, on March 1, 1914, to Emil and Ella (Willis) Otto. She was one of twelve children. Elsie Otto was married to William J. Charon and they had seven sons, Edward James of Sutherlin, Oregon; Vernal Emil (passed away at two years old); Harold Wayne of Nampa, Idaho; Curtis Robert of Portland, Oregon; William Earl (passed away in infancy); Lyle Dean of Bend, Oregon; Gary Lee (passed away in 1977). Besides her four living sons she had 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-great grandchildren. Elsie was a member of the Umpqua Trinity Fellowship Church of Roseburg. She wrote a book of her personal life at the age of 91. A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. A service will be held at 1 p.m., with Reverend Rayborn of the Nazarene Church officiating. Commitment following the service at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens.

Doral Dale Garrison

GARRISON, Doral Dale " Age 77, of Idleyld Park, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006. He was born on August 15, 1928, in Carpenbit, South Dakota, the son of William and Ethel (Bennett) Garrison. Dale served our country during the Korean War while in the U.S. Navy. He met Helen Barton in Utah and they were married in 1949. They moved to California where Dale worked for the Challenge Diary. He later became a long haul truck driver and eventually moved to Oregon. He was a former member of the Teamsters Union. Dale enjoyed trains, gardening and photography. He had a love for music, especially country music and loved to sing. Dale is survived by four daughters, Chris "Helen" Smith and her husband, Steve of Sutherlin, Oregon; Sandra Turner and her companion, Frank of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Sherry Foster and her husband, Steve of Austin, Texas; Desi Hatchkism of Orange, California; two sons, Danny Garrison and his wife, Adele of Bakersfield, California; Gary Garrison of Idleyld Park; the mother of his children, Helen Helvey of Winston, Oregon; brother, Buzz Garrison of Idaho; sister, Glenus Stevenson of Burley, Idaho; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2006, at Taylor's Family Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Byars. The VFW District Twelve Honor Guard will offer military rites. Private interment will be at the Roseburg National VA Cemetery.

Claudette Fay (Garton) Gauger

GAUGER, Claudette Fay (Garton) " Went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2006, after bravely fighting cancer to the end. Claudette was born on May 19, 1946, in Sweethome, Oregon, as the eldest daughter of four children to Wilson and Fay Garton. The family moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1956 where Claudette attended school and graduated with honors from Roseburg High School in 1964. Her activities in her youth included, Campfire Girls, Horse 4H Club, church youth group, concert and marching band. She played first chair oboe and was awarded a scholarship to attend Portland State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree. She returned to Roseburg and began her long teaching career, working five years at Fir Grove Elementary. Claudette had a passionate love for the Lord and for her teaching. In 1982, she combined these two great loves and became a Founding Teacher as well as the Head Teacher at Douglas County Christian School, Myrtle Creek Campus. Later she had a vision to reestablish a Christian School in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and together with Carol Yeazel they founded Souther County Christian School where Claudette was also the Head Teacher. She was a zealous, passionate teacher who was committed to the welfare of her students. Claudette accepted the Lord at a young age and was involved in many church activities throughout the years. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and sang in the choir. Claudette met her future husband, Clyde, through their mutual love of horses. They had a whirlwind romance and were married after only three months of dating. They were married on July 28, 1979, at United Methodist in Roseburg. She took time off from her teaching career to start a family. In 1973, her oldest daughter, Audra was born with Holly following in 1975. Claudette was extremely devoted to the care of her family and friends. Her grandchildren, Chantelle and Cierra held a very dear place in her heart. In 1979, Claudette and Clyde purchased a farm in Riddle, Oregon, where they raised their family and indulged in their love or horses. The whole family was involved in the showing of trail riding, cutting and breeding of Quarter Horses. Claudette is survived by her husband of 35 years, Clyde Gauger of Riddle; daughters, Audra Rudy of Myrtle Creek; Holly Howard of Dale City, Virginia; three sisters, Carmen Coe of Roseburg; Peggy Braun of Junction City, Oregon; Jean Hildebrant of Scottsdale, Arizona; and her twelve beloved grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Open Bible Church in Riddle on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Don Causey officiating. Graveside services following at Riddle Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of MYRTLE CREEK FAMILY FUNERAL HOME 863-5211.

Sacha Malaea Takamori Lee

In loving memory of Sacha Malaea Takamori Lee " She was born on June 20, 1983, and passed away on February 26, 2006. Sacha moved to Kane'ohe, Hawaii, from Oakland, Oregon, just over two years ago. The decision to leave home was difficult because her family and friends meant the world to her. She made many new friends in Hawaii and accomplished many of her goals. A major goal in achieving her independence came when she landed a job with a construction company. Sacha was following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather in the construction trade. She had recently enrolled in college and was excited about getting an "A" in her first class. Sacha was also learning how to surf. Sacha was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Takamori; grandfather, Lee Kidder; and uncle, Steven Kidder. Sacha is survived by her mother, Cheryl Lee; grandmother, Mary Kidder; two aunts; one uncle; and four cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10, 2006, at 4 p.m., at River Forks Park in Roseburg, Oregon.

John E. Parrott

PARROTT, John E. " Age 84, a resident of Oakland, California, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2006. He was born in Roseburg, Oregon, John graduated from Linfield College in 1945 and completed his education at the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley. He was most respected and appreciated by many as Pastor in Baptist Churches in Portland, Oregon, Bellingham and Yakima, Washington, and Des Moines, Iowa. He came to Oakland in 1969 to work with American Baptist Homes of the West serving as Administrator and Executive Director at Piedmont Gardens and Grand Lake Gardens until his retirement in 1986. During those happy and successful years, John felt that he was still a pastor. In retirement, John enjoyed his home, friends, family gatherings, church, riding horses in the Oakland hills, swimming, and traveling, including a Mediterranean cruise to the Holy Land in 1996. John is survived by his loving wife, Edie; daughters, Elizabeth Parrott Anderson; Carey Whitney and Jeff; daughter-in-law, Loni Parrott; grandsons, Steven and Michael Reider; Richard Whitney; Cody and Brady Parrott; two step-sons, Boyd MacDonald; David MacDonald and his wife, Dion and their sons, Scott and Ben; nieces and nephews, Jan Holden and Fred Parrott of Vancouver, Washington; Sandy Henry; Sarah Henry Patt; and Joe and W.D. Henry all of Umpqua, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Richard Parrott of Iowa City. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Oakland First Baptist Church, 22nd and Telegraph, Oakland. Susanne Marie Ruff

RUFF, Susanne Marie " Age 61, of St. Helens, Oregon, passed away on March 6, 2006. She was born on August 2, 1944, in Medford, Oregon, to Jack Schauble and Laura Robbins. Susanne raised her family in Roseburg, Oregon. She is survived by her mother, Laura Schauble; brother, Richard Schauble; brother, John Schauble; dear friend, Ed Winter; son, Adam Ruff; son, George W. Ruff; daughter, Kathryn Ruff; and three grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Skyline Funeral Home Chapel, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, in Portland, Oregon.
