Global warming expert and Oregon State University professor Jane Lubchenco will present the latest information on global warming and its effects on the Northwest at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Roseburg High School Rose Theatre.
Sponsored by the Douglas County Global Warming Coalition, Lubchenco's presentation is free and open to the public.
Lubchenco is a professor of marine biology and a distinguished professor of zoology. She is past president of the International Council of Science and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Lubchenco co-chaired Gov. Ted Kulongoski's global warming advisory group from 2004 to 2005, which produced a series of proposals designed to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Oregon.
From 1989 to 1991, Lubchenco provided climate change advice to the George H.W. Bush administration and Congress through an assessment by the National Academy of Sciences on "Policy Implications of Global Warming."
Lubchenco is a former president of the International Council for Science and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
She has served on the National Science Board for 10 years. Her expertise includes ocean ecosystems, climate change and its effects on human beings.
