TILLER -- A fire ignited by a candle caused substantial damage to a small home on Tiller Trail Highway Saturday night.
Tiller Rural Fire Protection District responded to the small cabin at 33091 Tiller Trail Highway around 8:42 p.m. A candle had apparently caught a curtain and a wall on fire, said Fire Chief Kevin Kehoe.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within a couple of minutes, but the home received smoke and water damage and parts of the ceiling had been burnt.
The home's resident, Tabitha Hoffman, 30, was not injured. The American Red Cross will be assisting Hoffman, Kehoe said.
Kehoe estimated the home sustained about $2,000 in damage, including contents.
The Milo Rural Fire Protection District also assisted.
