REEDSPORT The Reedsport Police Department is offering to help dispose of hot water heaters, stoves, freezers and even old cars in a free west Douglas County community event in June.
The sixth annual Douglas County Clean-Up, scheduled to take place June 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free to Reedsport and west Douglas County residents.
Disposable items in addition to those above include refrigerators, washers and dryers, scrap metal, metal siding and metal roofing, tires and metal wheels, and car batteries. Commercial or semitruck tires and tractor tires are not permitted, and permitted tires must be free of debris.
Old cars can be picked up free of charge, but they must have a legal title or be in legal control of the property where the vehicle is parked.
A $20 processing fee benefiting the Reedsport Community Student Fund will be assessed for vehicles without a title. Items containing liquid will not be accepted.
Approved items can be transported to the vacant lot behind Roseburg Forest Products west of the Highway 38 and Highway 101 intersection, or pickup arrangements can be made by contacting the Reedsport Police Department at 271-2100 by 2 p.m. on June 10.
Pickup crews will only travel as far as Gardiner, Tugman Hill, Smith River Store, and Bobs Market. Arrangements for vehicle pickup can be made by calling Mast Brothers Towing and Recovery at 271-3019, starting Monday.
All proceeds and donations benefit Great Afternoons, housed in Highland Elementary and providing services to children between the ages of 3 and 12, and Great Beginnings, a childrens program neighboring the Reedsport Family Resource Center at 5 Saint Johns Way, providing services to children between the ages of 6 weeks and 3 years old.
For more information, contact Officer Bob Corcoran of the Reedsport Police Department, 271-2100.
You can reach reporter Erik Skoog at 957-4202 or by e-mail at eskoog@newsreview.info.
