ROSEBURG: Kids 5 to 11 years old will have a chance this summer to learn all about local American Indians and "no-trace" camping practices at a 5-day day camp.
Summerkids Day Camp is set for the last week of the month, June 26 to 30 at the Douglas County Museum.
Youngsters will learn to cook with a stick over an open fire, make a "lummi stick" -- a cylindrical percussion instrument -- and add a few words to their vocabulary from the WaWa jargon, a pidgin once used by Oregon native Americans, like the Chinook.
Registration is $110 for the week and the deadline is June 21.
Contact Trish Loper, camp coordinator at 342-6338, Ext. 106 for more information.
