George Charles Kirby

KIRBY, George Charles " Age 90, of Roseburg, Oregon, was called home to be with the Lord to be another tour guide in heaven, on Sunday, August 27, 2006. He was born in Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada, on January 25,1916, to Frank and Ethel Kirby. On November 1, 1942, George married Waitha M. Richards in Vancouver, Washington. They moved to Roseburg, shortly after, and have been residents of Douglas County for the past 64 years. George was a very hard working man, and was always on the go. He was one of the original responders to the August 7, 1959, blast. George worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as a yard master for 39 years, before retiring in 1974. He was a volunteer fireman for the Roseburg and Douglas County Fire departments. in 1960, George was the past president for the Oregon Volunteer Association. He drove for Walt's and Medic 4 Ambulances. Drove a school bus for Ellison's, and worked at the River Forks Market for 12 years for his daughter. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodges. George also loved to travel, especially with his wife, Waitha to Desert Hot Springs, California. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Frank Kirby. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Waitha Kirby of Roseburg; daughters, Barbara and her husband, George Thompson of Coos Bay, Oregon; Mardell and her husband, Terry Nugent of Roseburg; brother, Eric Kirby and his wife, Joyce of Grants Pass, Oregon; brother-in-law, Bud Richards and his wife, Rose; sister-in-law, Ruth Cramer; grandchildren, Larry Morene; Tony Morene; Leslie Simmons,; Terry Nugent; John Nugent; Kenon Nugent; Richard Nugent and 14 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Chaplain Jim Osborne will be officiating. George Kirby will be laid to rest within the grounds of the Roseburg Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George's name to: Mercy Hospice or Loma Lina University Medical Center. LONG AND SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of the arrangements.

Dale Edward Omanson

OMANSON, Dale Edward " Of passed away on Monday, August 28, 2006, at the age of 86. He was born in Bradford, Illinois, on May 30, 1920, to Isaac and Irene Omanson. Dale was in the U.S. Army and served during WWII in Europe. He married Florence Bell Conway on May 7, 1949. Dale worked as a dispatcher for an ambulance service. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold. Survived by his wife, Florence Omanson of Roseburg; step-sons, Harold Grout; Ray Grout both of Roseburg; grandchildren, Deborah Grout; Scott Grout; Eric Grout; Bethany Mosher; Andrea Janssen; ten great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Dale will be laid to rest on Friday, September 1, 2006, at 10 a.m., within the grounds of the Melrose Cemetery. LONG AND SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of the arrangements.

Edythe Leola Leon

LEON, Edythe Leola " Age 78, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2006. She was born on August 26, 1928, to Neil and Florence (Stanbro) Peck in Spartansburg, Pennsylvania. She was a descendent of the Stanbro family that settled in Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. Thirty-one plus years ago she married Ruben Leon and raised her family earning her own "GOOD CONDUCT METAL" from them. Edythe is loved and missed by all who knew her. She was faithful to The Church and could on occasion be found at the Elk's Lodge. She is survived by her husband, Ruben Leon and children, Mary; Patrick and wife, Kathy; Colleen; John; son-in-law; and daughter-in-law, Terry; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Albert Jr. and family; Richard and family; Shayla and family; also Mike Littlefield and family; Charlotte Brown; Clair Allen and family; Debbie and Allen Short and the entire STANBRO family from Pennsylvania. Services and burial in the National Cemetery will be conducted in the future. The family thanks everyone for cards and flowers, but a donation to your favorite charity in Edythe's name would be preferred.

Glenna Sue Hayden

HAYDEN, Glenna Sue " Born on July 3, 1932 and passed away on Monday, August 28, 2006. Born in Enid, Oklahoma, to parents, Guy and Elizabeth Gill, she was the beloved wife, of Dennis R. Hayden for 54 years. They were High School sweethearts and married on March 14, 1952. They were Roseburg High School graduates of the class of 1950. She is survived by her husband, Dennis; brother, Larry Gill and wife, Wanda of Oklahoma; sons, Rory and wife, Brenda Hayden of Keizer, Oregon; Robb and Julie Hayden of Bend, Oregon; Glen and Judy Hayden of Salem,Oregon; Linn and Elverta Hayden of Keizer; eight grandchildren, Savannah, Jesse, Kirk, Thomas, Angela, Luke, Sierra, Levi, and ten nieces and four nephews. Glenna retired after 13 years as the Personal Secretary to Governor Victor Atiyeh. She loved family, traveling, pets, gardening, crafts and cards. She was a member of the Keizer Community Church. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Keizer Community Church. Private interment will be at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glenna's name to the American Diabetic Association P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, Virgina 22038, American Lung Association 9320 SW Barbur Blvd, Suite #140, Portland, Oregon, 97219, Marion-Polk Food Share or The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. Arrangements are by Howell-Edwards Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.

Grace Jones

JONES, Grace " Age 96, died at Beverly Health Care Center. Rachel Grace Sarvar was born on September 24, 1909, in Scott County, Idaho, to parents, Homer and Silpha (Bridgewater) Sarvar. She married Ray Jones in California, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1944. She is survived by one son, Steven and wife, Jean of Airway Heights, Washington; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and over 30 foster children and many nephews and nieces including, Bonnie Funk of Madison. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters. She moved to Brookings, South Dakota, in 1918, where she graduated from High School in 1927. She received her nursing training in St. Paul and worked in seven states including 36 years in Brookings, 26 years in Sioux Falls and 20 years in Madison. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madison and the Retired Nurses Association. There will be no visitation or services. To send a message of sympathy visit
