CANYONVILLE: A home under remodel caught fire Thursday causing an estimated $20,000 in damage.
Firefighters responded to the home at 675 First St. around 1 a.m. and found the back side of the structure in flames, said Canyonville South Umpqua Fire District Chief Raymond Brown.
Crews had the blaze knocked down within about five minutes, but the fire entered the tin roofing, which had to slowly be removed to extinguish the flames, Brown said.
The fire was completely out in about two hours.
Brown said the house was unoccupied and nobody was injured.
The owner of the home is Joseph T. Stever, according to the Douglas County Assessor's Office.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Brown said some 20 firefighters responded to the scene. Tri City Rural Fire Protection District No. 4, Riddle Volunteer Fire Department and Myrtle Creek Fire Department also assisted.
