Roseburg jumps to early lead, rolls to victory

From the first moment the Roseburg High football team touched the ball Friday night, it was obvious that things were going to go in the Indians' direction against South Salem.

Just two minutes into the game, John Tommasini returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown, giving the No. 10-ranked Tribe an early 7-0 lead on the way to a 41-16 win at Finlay Field.

John Forrester scored on a four-yard run early in the second quarter, and less than one minute after South Salem notched a field goal to make it 14-3, Adam Brink scored on a 20-yard touchdown run.

Backup quarterback Jake Johnson connected with Bo Jackson for an 11-yard touchdown right before halftime to give the Indians a 28-3 advantage.

Starting QB Brad Lint then hit Scott Allred 55 seconds into the third quarter to give Roseburg a commanding 35-3 lead. Phil Priest tacked on a two-yard TD run midway through the fourth quarter as the Indians amassed 335 yards of total offense (unofficial).

Also of note, junior kicker Marshall Wagner converted five of six extra points after joining the team last week.
