RICE VALLEY: A traffic stop Saturday led to the discovery of a dead blacktailed deer in the trunk of an Oakland woman's Volvo.
An Oregon State Police trooper pulled over Tia Kay Braack, 25, in a 1978 Volvo on Interstate 5 near Milepost 145 and found that she had no insurance and was driving while suspended, according to an Oregon State Police report.
During the 11 p.m. stop, the trooper noticed blood and hair on the trunk and front of the vehicle and then found the deer.
Braack was taken to the Douglas County Jail where she was cited and released for driving while suspended and uninsured and unlawful possession of a blacktailed deer.
An Oregon State Police trooper said the deer had been hit by a vehicle, though he did not know this morning whether Braack was the one who struck it.
It is illegal to pick up dead game animals such as deer or bear.
