CRATER LAKE The search for a missing 8-year-old boy continued today at Crater Lake National Park.
Samuel Boehlke was reported missing by his father Ken Boehlke at 6 p.m. last Saturday. Father and son had been sightseeing in the park when Samuel reportedly ran into a wooded area along the East Rim Drive, according to a Crater Lake press release.
Boehlke called 911 after searching the area unsuccessfully for his son.
Park rangers and Jackson County Search and Rescue searched for Samuel Saturday evening. Search dogs were able to pick up a scent from the boy, but he remained missing after the initial search.
Around 110 search personnel from Oregon, Washington and California joined the search Sunday and Monday. Another 30 searchers were en route Monday evening.
Winter weather conditions, including snow, winds and low visibility have hampered the search, according to the park release. Three inches of snow accumulated at the park Monday, with snow showers again forecast for Tuesday.
Temperatures were forecast to fall to a low of 24 degrees Monday night at Crater Lake.
Search aircraft have been unable to fly due to the weather.
Samuel was last seen in the Cleetwood Cove area, 500 yards from the Cleetwood Cove parking lot. He is around 85 pounds, with brown eyes and short brown hair, and is approximately 4 feet 11 inches tall.
He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved green shirt and black-striped T-shirt, dark blue winter jacket, tan cargo pants, light red slip-on suede shoes with rubber soles.
Samuel also goes by Sammie.
Anyone in the Cleetwood Cove area on Oct. 14 who may have seen Samuel is asked to contact the Crater Lake Dispatch Center at (541) 594-3060 or a local law enforcement agency.
