Gabriel Joshua Wolrab (Carr)

CARR, Gabriel Joshua Wolrab — Gabriel took his life at his home in Roseburg, Oregon, on October 17th, 2006. We deeply grieve the loss of this amazing young man. Gabe was born on May 3, 1985, in Long Beach, California, to parents, Jeannice Furgerson and Lawrence Wolrab. When Gabe was 9 he met the man who would be his father, Daniel Carr. Gabe was a traveler. He loved to hit the road for adventure (parties). Always returning home to his family to regale us with tales of his exploits. He was also an accomplished poet. He expressed himself so eloquently on paper. Winning talent shows and even being published in the school yearbook. Gabe graduated with honors from Sutherlin High School in 2003. During his high school years Gabe developed such strong bonds with so many people. Sami Saltzman was the one female who understood Gabe inside and out. I believe in a lot of ways they were reflections of each other. He also had the honor of graduating with his two best friends and brothers, Trevor Metz and Ryan Yancey. He was voted most "pierced." Upon graduation Gabe began to indulge his love of travel. Along with his trusty backpack and a pair of good shoes he was off to see the world. He loved to meet new people and experience different cultures. He shared that bond with a special friend, Josh Bighaus. Now Josh will carry a part of Gabe with him in all his travels. There were so many people who had a close bond with Gabe, unfortunately I can't list you all. Please don't feel slighted if your name does not appear here. You know what you meant to him. A few people deserve special recognition here. First and foremost his little sister, Christie. Their love transcends all! His father Daniel Carr, whom he respected and loved more than any man in his life. Sami Saltzman...you know why! Justin Nunnamaker of Tapestry Tattoo for being Gabe's Michelangelo! Ivan Pace and Ben and Jake Mackenzie for always giving him a place to crash! Josh Bighaus for being his road buddy and finally Trevor Metz and Ryan Yancey for being not only his brothers, but always and forever his best friends. Gabe is survived by his parents, Jeannice Furgerson and Daniel Carr; sisters, Christie Shute; Elizabeth Arias and Jessica Mandin all of Sutherlin; brothers, Trevor Metz and wife, Fatima; Ryan Yancey and girlfriend, Jaimee; nephew, Ezra Metz and niece, Isis Yancey all of Roseburg; grandparents, Joyce and Jimmy Cooksey of Tennessee; Donna and Doyle Carr of Montana; Vince and Ardyce Wolrab of Iowa and Mary Wolk of California; great aunts, Janice Rogers of Myrtle Creek, Oregon and Phyllis and Ron Edwards of Green, Oregon; aunts Tara Randall of Roseburg; Jeaniva Gray; Jeannette Hines; Jaime Siebuhr and Andrea Odom all of Tennessee; Doris Ackerman and Wendy Christian of Iowa and Laurie Lucke of Massachusetts; uncles, Lance Wolrab and Doug Carr of California; Vince Wolrab Jr. and Scotty Wolrab of Iowa and his uncle, Joey Hines of Tennessee with whom he shared an extra special bond. He is survived by cousins too numerous to mention. Gabe was preceded in death by his Mammo, Inez Townsend; grandfather, Elkin Johnson; great uncle, Lee Rogers and recently his cousin, Christopher Rogers. They await his arrival on the other side along with his beloved dog, Shelli. His Memorial was held on Monday, October 23, 2006, at 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., at the Sutherlin Community Center. Mijo, You were my wish on every star. In the "always" that lie ahead and the "forever" that will be...I loved having you in my world. I will hold you in my heart more gently than any feeling. I will keep you on my mind more lovingly than any thought and I will feel blessed by your presence more than you will ever know...Mommy.

TOLES, Carl Newton – 86, of Roseburg, Oregon, changed addresses and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2006, after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s. Carl was born on February 28, 1920, in Agra, Oklahoma, to Alva and Rosa Toles. Carl grew up in the cotton fields of Oklahoma, riding on the bags of cotton until he was old enough to work, and work he did. He wanted to know everything about farming, and every chance he got, found him in the fields with his dad or the neighbors around the Cahone, Colorado, area. This is where he later meets his bride to be, June Gregory, and married her on November 24, 1940. Carl and June eventually settled in Buhl, Idaho, where Carl was an animal nutritionist for the farmers and fish hatchery. He enjoyed many different aspects of that career from driving truck to Portland weekly, helping clean up and rebuild after the 1959 blast, stepping into the Manager position for a few years and then ending with overseeing the plumbing department. He enjoyed helping out anytime he was needed after retirement and just liked being busy. Carl loved his garden and flower beds, his tomatoes and roses were always special to him. His red geraniums will be so missed by the community. Carl and June’s home was one block from the blast and after everything settled down they were able to purchase the home across the street know as the Simon Lane home. (Next to Lane House Museum). Where they have made there home for the last 47 years. Carl and June moved in May of this year to Powell Valley Retirement Home in Portland, Oregon.
