Kendra Little had that look in her eye early in Thursdays Southwest Conference girls basketball duel with Roseburg.
The Sheldon High senior wing scored a game-high 25 points and nailed six 3-point field goals, leading the No. 10-ranked Irish to a 61-50 win over the No. 8-ranked Indians at Robertson Memorial Gym.
Little rang up four treys in the first half, and then hit 7-of-9 free throws in the fourth quarter, helping Sheldon become the last undefeated team in the SWC.
Kendra had that steely-eyed look on her face and I knew we were going to be in good shape, said Sheldon coach Luke Roth, whose team improved to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the SWC. Shes our glue and she stepped it up when she had to.
Roth said his team played its best quarter of the season in the first, opening the game on a 21-5 run that was capped by a Little 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The Indians shaved the lead to 29-17 at halftime, and cut it to eight points midway through the third quarter. But a series of missed layups and turnovers by the Tribe allowed the Irish to reclaim a 15-point edge (40-25) heading into the fourth.
We got in a big hole early on and just couldnt bounce out of it, said Roseburg senior Kristi Fallin, who scored 13 points.
We got close at times, but then they would turn around and execute perfectly on their end. We missed a few too many layins and free throws, and they capitalized on our mistakes. We know were a better team than we showed tonight.
Roseburg shot 20 of 36 from the field, but missed at least five gimmes along the way. The Indians also committed 23 turnovers to the Irishs 10.
Meanwhile, the Indians shot 53 percent (9 of 17) from the line, compared to a 71 percent effort (17 of 24) by the Irish.
The Indians (12-2 overall, 4-1 SWC) were led by senior Julie Pipers 16 points. Junior point guard Katie Wilton scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
In addition to Littles lights-out performance, Sheldon also received strong contributions from post Theresa Brown (12 points), Taylor Ward (12 points) and Katie Steigleman (10 points).
Ward, a freshman point guard, went 6 for 6 from the line late in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

Roseburg is a very good team and they didnt quit, Roth said. We needed to knock down our free throws at the end because they were coming after us.
Trailing 46-31 with 5 minutes remaining, the Indians made one final push, cutting the lead to nine with 2:23 left on a layup by Piper.
Another inside shot by Piper with 1:25 remaining cut the lead to 52-45, but Sheldon continued to knock down its free throws, sending the Tribe to their first conference defeat.
We needed to play with more energy from the start, Wilton said. We fell behind too much early on, and its hard to play your game when youre behind by so much. We needed to be more patient on offense and make better decisions.
On the bright side, Wilton added that the Irish arent likely to shoot 54 percent (18 of 33) from the field every night.
They were just making everything, she said. But thats not going to happen every time. Well be better prepared for them next time we play.
Roseburg coach Jeff Thomas described Thursdays loss as a learning experience, and he complimented Sheldon on their offensive balance and composure late in the game.
They were every bit as good as we thought they would be, Thomas said. We just didnt execute very well on offense. Their defense made us hurry a bit and we made a few too many mental errors. Well have to be better than that (today).
The Indians travel to Grants Pass tonight for another SWC contest.
