Roseburg girls no match for Sheldon

EUGENE -- Sheldon put a serious dent in the Roseburg High girls basketball team's Southwest Confernce title hopes Friday with a 51-40 point win.

Kendra Little hit four 3-point field goals to finish with 16 points, and Katie Steigelman added 14 points as the Irish beat the Indians for a second time to improve to 9-0 in the SWC.

"Their defense made us uncomfortable and we made a lot of poor decisions," Roseburg coach Jeff Thomas, whose team fell to 7-3 in the SWC and 15-4 overall. "But give credit to Sheldon. The made us hurry a lot on offense and we weren't able to respond."

Julie Piper led the Indians with 19 points and Kristi Fallin had 12 points and 11 rebounds. But a 42-23 deficit after three quarters was too much to overcome.

"The bottom line was that we didn't make enough shots," Thomas said. "We missed a lot of easy ones that we'd like to have back. But Sheldon is a good team all around."

The Indians will look to rebound Tuesday at home against Grants Pass.
