Police arrested a Salem man last week after allegedly finding him with more than six ounces of methamphetamine during a drug deal arranged through an informant in Sutherlin.
The deal had been set for Thursday and shortly after 3 p.m., Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team officers contacted the man in a parking lot on the 1600 block of West Central Avenue, according to a DINT press release.
Francisco Gomez, 20, was to deliver several ounces of meth and cocaine from the Salem area. During a search of the mans vehicle, officers found the meth along with two ounces of cocaine and two ounces of a cutting agent for the meth used to dilute the drug, according to the press release.
Gomez was arrested without incident on suspicion of unlawful delivery and possession of meth and cocaine. The drugs had an estimated street value of $7,000 to $10,000, said DINT Operations Sgt. Ryland Summers.
The arrest was the result of a long-term investigation into meth and cocaine trafficking into Douglas County from the Salem area.
Officials say it is likely the meth is connected to the growing amount of drugs coming to Oregon from Mexican national drug trafficking organizations. Meth coming from these groups has increased as the number of meth labs statewide have decreased following legislation that curbed the sale of pseudoephedrine.
The Sutherlin Police Department assisted in the arrest.
