WINCHESTER BAY: A California man was injured Friday in an all-terrain vehicle accident on the sand dunes at Winchester Bay.
Gordon R. Conkle, 63, of Ukiah, was riding a 2004 Yamaha YZF 450 when he went over a drop-off around 4:20 p.m., according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report.
Conkle’s vision was reportedly hindered by the sun and wind and he didn’t see the sheer drop ahead, according to the report.
He was taken to Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport with a possible broken leg.
He was later transferred to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene. He was listed in serious condition this morning.
