Edward F. Connelly

Age 76, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2007. Arrangements pending. WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES 541-673-4455.

Damon Joseph Wallick

Age 31, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2007, in Winchester, Oregon. He was born on February 8, 1976, in Westminster, California, to Ken and Monica (Romero) Wallick. Damon served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years and worked as a carpenter. Damon moved to Roseburg from Southern California at the age of two. Raised in Roseburg, and graduated from Roseburg High School. Attended UCC. Attended Portland Art Institute. Completed UCC Construction Technology certification. Damon was an energetic young man of many passions. He loved music, art, books, and movies. He was an avid collector of graphic novels, and was a master painter of miniature figures. In 2006, Damon moved to the Aspen area of Colorado to begin his new career as a carpenter. He immediately became part of a vibrant community, immersing himself in his passion for bicycling. In nine short months Damon made a host of friends who loved him as much as any family would. Together they formed The Stomparillas, whose goals were to promote the environmental and recreational value of cycling, and to contribute to the cultural enrichment of the community. Damon is deeply missed by family and friends in both Oregon and Colorado, and will always be in our hearts. He married Gwen DeRungs in 2003. Survivors include parents, Ken and Monica Wallick of Winchester; aunt, Vicky Romero of Roseburg; uncle, Joseph Romero of Arcata, California; cousins, Briana Cotten of Durango Colorado; and Ramson Romero of Seattle, Washington; former wife, Gwen Wallick, of Roseburg. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Joe and Tillie Romero and Dallas and Juanita Wallick. A memorial service will be held at 439 Wild Fern Drive, Winchester on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at 2 p.m. Contribution can be made to Douglas County Chapter, American Cancer Society.

Lida Lee Wilson

Age 100, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Kellogg, Oregon July 4, 2007. She was born June 10, 1907 in El Madena, California to John and Nancy Rickey, the 7th of 9 children. Lida graduated from Hemet Union High School in 1923. She married Alva Wilson on July 26, 1924 in San Bernardino, California. Together they had 4 children. Lida was a mom and homemaker. She loved to sew, crochet, cook and always working with her hands. Most of her family has something she made, a crocheted table cloth or clothes hangers she decorated or doilies. After her husband passed away she went to work as a live in housekeeper and cook for the Nuns, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She had a great sense of humor, something that never left her. She will be missed by us all. Survivors include two sons, Larry Wilson and Bob Wilson and his wife, Doloris; granddaughter, Carolyn Emery and her husband, Chuck; granddaughter, Linda Stokes and her husband, Perry; grandsons, Chris and his wife, Vivian; Patrick and his wife, Paula; Jack and his wife, Ann; Steven Sojka and his wife, Ginger; Daniel Sojka; Aaron Rosewalter; Kevin, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Lida was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Wilson; daughter, Colleen Campbell; son, Jack Wilson; all of her sisters and brothers (8), granddaughter, Vicky Wilson; grandson, Danny Batchelor and her mom and dad. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 3 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Father Eldon Schwab, Celebrant. Private inurnment will be held in California with her husband Alva Wilson. Memorial contributions may be made in Lida Wilson's memory to the Sutherlin Food Pantry P.O.Box 94, Sutherlin, Oregon 97479. Chapel of the Firs is in charge of arrangements.

Betty B. Harvey

Age 75, of Wilbur, Oregon, passed away with her loving family at her side, on Monday, July 16, 2007, after a long illness. She was born on July 31, 1931, in Walthill, Nebraska, the daughter of Harry and Myrtie (Doud) Stout. Her loving husband, Roy Harvey; daughter, Elizabeth Mulder; grandson, Aaron Cooper; brother, George Stout and the entire Harvey family, including numerous nieces and nephews, survives her. She loved racing, baseball and playing Keno at her favorite place, Nilknarf's. The family believes that she is at the big racetrack in the sky, watching all her favorite drivers. There is no formal service planned, but feel free to stop by the house, located at 750 North Bank Road, in Wilbur, across from the Methodist Church, at noon, on Saturday, July 21, 2007, for a celebration of Betty's life. No flowers please. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.

Kevin Conn Handy

Age 56, passed away in Coquille, Oregon, on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. He was preceded in death by parents, Orlo and Bernice Handy. He is survived by Kathy LaMere his long-time companion; sister, Jennifer High of Roseburg, Oregon; brother, Kerwin Handy of Coquille. He has a son, Justin Handy of Baker City, Oregon; son, Keith Rosson of Portland, Oregon; and a daughter, Anna Weston of Newberg, Oregon; and seven grandchildren. A large part of his life was spent in support of and dedicated to people in recovery. He was one of the founders of the Ken Trueman Recovery Center in Newport, Oregon, and also a manager of a 17 bed transitional housing unit in Newport. He loved the beach, the mountains, music, his cats, and friends and family. He was noted for his wild berry jam and jellies. He will be missed by friends and family greatly. A memorial service will be held in Newport in the future. "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference."

A memorial Mass will be offered Sunday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church at 800 West Stanton Street, Roseburg.

Yvette J. Carnes

Age, 64 of Myrtle Creek, Oregon

passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 after a long and brave battle with kidney failure, at home with her husband and 5 children by her side. She was born July 29, 1942 in Malartic, P.Quebec Canada to John and Luciene (Mireault) Charette. She was a resident of Myrtle Creek for over 31 years. When she was a young girl in Canada she attended a convent until in 1954 her family moved to Buffalo, New York. In 1956 her family moved to San Jose, California, where she worked as a waitress for many years and later worked for a company assembling micro-chips. In 1976 her and her children moved to Myrtle Creek. She was a waitress at 3J's in Canyonville, Oregon, for several years and later at a Chinese restaurant in Winston, Oregon. She married the love of her life, Erling Carnes on January 26, 1980 in Myrtle Creek. She would babysit children and clean houses for a living for many years until her health would no longer allow her to. She loved to read, travel, go on walks and bike rides with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's school programs and sports events. She especially loved family gathering and taking trips to the ocean. To know Yvette was to love her. Her husband and children were the most precious to her. She had a love that was unconditional. She will be in our hearts forever and be deeply missed. She is survived by husband, Erling Carnes of Myrtle Creek; daughters, Joann Buffa of Corvallis, Oregon; Trina and Tom Leodoro of Myrtle Creek; Marcelle and Dan Smith of Sandy, Oregon; Monique Mealer of Fairbanks, Alaska and son, John Chastain of Corvallis, Oregon; Step-sons, Eddie Chastain of Portland, Oregon; Glen and Linda Carnes; Kim and Ladonna Carnes all of Myrtle Creek; Carl and Karla Carnes of Eugene, Oregon; Gary Carnes of Canyonville, Oregon; Wayne and Debbie Carnes of Riddle, Oregon; sisters, Tina and Jerry Vilotta of Bensenville, Illinois; Georgette and Victor Medina of Dinuba, California; Yvonne and Albert Larochelle of Mont-Laurier', P.Quebec Canada; Brothers, Ed and Shawn Charette of Tigard, Oregon; Andrew Charette of Winebago, Illinois; John-Paul and Sandy Charette of Victoria, B.C. Canada; 8 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and many special friends. She is preceded in death by both parents, and many aunts and uncles.
