The Roseburg School District has announced three finalists for the position of superintendent, including one local principal Larry Parsons, Doug Freeman and Ron Worrell.
Freeman has been principal of Joseph Lane Middle School in Roseburg since 2003.
He was vice principal from 2000 to 2003. He has a Masters degree in secondary education and administration from the University of Montana and a Bachelor of Arts in literature and composition from Montana State University.
Parsons is superintendent of the Selah School District in central Washington, where he has served since 2001. He has also worked as executive director for the Spokane School District and was principal of Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley.
He has a Masters of Education degree from Eastern Oregon State University and Doctor of Philosophy in educational leadership from Gonzaga University.
Worrell has served as superintendent in Harrisburg, Ore., since 1998. He has also worked as superintendent in Hagerman Idaho, and Tygh Valley, Ore. He has a Masters degree in education administration and is working on a doctorate at Oregon State University.
The candidates will meet the public from 6 to 9 p.m. March 13 at Joseph Lane Middle School, 2153 N.E. Vine St.
They will also visit school sites to give staff an opportunity to meet and visit with them.
We sincerely hope that the community will join us in this critical task of selecting our next superintendent, Board Chairman Denny Austin said in a press release. Weve had an opportunity to review several excellent candidates. During this meeting with the finalists, community members will have an opportunity to share their thoughts with the board. The board welcomes community input from patrons and staff alike. All input will be considered as the board continues through this important decision-making process.
