FLORENCE South Umpqua Highs softball team handled Siuslaw with ease Friday in a Far West League doubleheader, winning 23-0 and 12-0 in five-inning games.
The second-ranked Lancers finished with 20 hits in the twin bill, opening the first-game with a seven-run outburst and never looked back. South Umpqua (10-1, 3-0 FWL) has outscored its opponents 127-15 this year.
Were playing the game very well right now, said SU coach Dennis Evenson.
Melodie Bliven went 3-for-4 with a triple in the opener. Katie Bumgarner ripped a pair of doubles and drove in five runs, Lindsey Goodson had two doubles and two RBIs, and Taylor Whitmore and Brittany Bice were both 2-for-3.
Whitmore fired a one-hitter in the pitchers circle, striking out 12 and walking none.
In the nightcap, Bice stroked three hits in four at-bats. Erica Parker went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Bumgarner knocked in three runs. Triana Crane pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts.
The Lancers will visit Sutherlin on Tuesday in a Far West contest.

NORTH BEND The visiting Bulldogs improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Far West League after sweeping North Bend.
Freshman right-hander Mikayla Mendenhall struck out eight batters and only allowed one walk and two hits in Game 1. Hannah Kasal (2-0) picked up the nightcap victory, allowing only four hits and a walk and striking out one.
Tessa Knight was 6-for-8 on the day, Sierra Terrel-Perez 4-for-6 with two doubles, Amanda Hutchings 5-for-8 day with a two-run homer in the third inning of Game 1, Destiny Cowan 3-for-4 with a double and triple in the nightcap and Tess Bennett finished 5-for-7.
The home Bulldogs, who were outhit 27-6, managed just one run (unearned) in the doubleheader. Sutherlin hosts South Umpqua at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BROOKINGS Brookings-Harbor shut down Douglas struggling offense in a Far West League doubleheader, as Jessie Goergen threw shutouts in both games.
Brook Blofsky had two hits, drove in a run and scored another for the Bruins in the opener. In the nightcap, Goergen drove in both runs with a double in the third inning.
The Trojans (0-3, 2-7 FWL) managed only five hits on the day. Courtney Bush had two of them in Game 1, including a double.

DRAIN Kaittlyn Rice hit a solo home run, Ashleigh Meza struck out a combined 12 batters and North Douglas outhit Oakland 20-8 in a Mountain View Conference sweep.
Rice, who belted a solo shot in the third inning, also hit a three-run triple in the fourth in Game 1. She finished the day 5-for-7 with four RBIs.
Meza, who was 2-for-3 in Game 1, improved to 5-3 by earning both victories on the mound. Robin Whipple finished 3-for-4 in Game 2.
North Douglas (5-4 overall, 5-1 league) will play at Crow at 4:30 p.m. Monday in a non-league game.

WINSTON The Trojans won big in Game 1 in five innings, but struggled against first-team all-league and all-state pitcher Tyler Parke in the nightcap.
Parke struck out 17 batters and walked just two in Game 2.
In Game 1, Cody Walton went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Brian Ortis finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Nick Bohnenkamp (3-0) added two hits and two RBIs to go along with his four strikeouts, three walks and two earned runs in the complete-game victory. Douglas outhit Brookings, 11-3.
Sky Woods hit two doubles for the Trojans in the second game. Bryson Norton took the loss.
Douglas (8-3 overall, 2-1 league) hosts Siuslaw at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a Far West League game.

Bryce Weidman and Kyle Forrester both hit home runs and Forrester struck out 11 batters for the visiting Bulldogs in Game 1. Sutherlin made five errors and had only four hits. Kyle Jaukkuri went 2-for-3.
Bruce Ohlrich belted a homer and Alex Clark hit a triple in the nightcap for North Bend.
