Trojans split with Elmira in softball

ELMIRA — Douglas won 18-1 in its first game against Elmira, then lost 18-17 in the nightcap in the non-league doubleheader.

Katy King pitched a complete game, striking out two batters and walking none. She and Jessica Case both went 4-for-5 and Amanda Harris finished 3-for-5 in Game 1.

“Our bats finally came alive today,” Douglas coach Rick Taylor said. “We had 33 hits on the day and did not leave a lot of girls on base, which is what we needed.

The Trojans owned a five-run lead entering the last inning when fatigue began to take its toll.

“We just couldn’t stop the Falcon charge at the end,” Taylor said.
