Indians sweep Panthers in Southwest softball



MEDFORD — The third-ranked Indians took care of business on the road, sweeping the Panthers 6-0, 8-1 in a Southwest Conference doubleheader to hike their winning streak to seven games.

Senior right-hander Mikayla Endicott tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener, striking out 15 and walking none. Jazmine Crowe went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, Cadee Kinne 2-for-3 and Tori Walker knocked in a pair of runs for Roseburg (8-3-1, 3-0 SWC).

The Tribe scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Alyssa DesBiens had an RBI single, Walker stroked a two-run single, Kinne contributed an RBI double and Crowe an RBI single.

Endicott allowed five hits in the nightcap, fanning 12 and walking none. Nikki Bassett went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, Walker 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Breanne Thomas 2-for-4 with two runs. Kendra George knocked in two runs and scored twice.

Marissa Towry went 2-for-3 with a triple for South Medford (1-2 SWC).

The Indians will host South Eugene at Stewart Park Tuesday in a conference game.

Bandon 1-10</b>

BANDON — The Wildcats swept a doubleheader from the Tigers, with the first game counting as a Sunset League game and the nightcap a non-leaguer.

Glide (6-1, 4-1 Sunset) pounded out 16 hits in the opener, with Shae Gilbreath leading the way with a 4-for-4 effort. Kristy Russell went 3-for-4, while Brittany Eifert, Angela Bryant and Lacey Maher all had two hits.

Katie Meyer pitched the win, allowing seven hits while striking out six and walking none.

The Wildcats rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win the second game. Jessica Strader had three hits in four at-bats, Jamie Shaffer went 3-for-5 with a triple and double, and Maher and Danette Enos each stroked two hits.

Riddle 10-15

Central Linn 5-2</b>

HALSEY — Riddle never trailed in a doubleheader sweep of Central Linn, scoring early and often stay unbeaten in Mountain View Conference play.

Riddle improved to 10-1 on the season and 8-0 in the MVC, setting up a Tuesday showdown with archrival Glendale.

Catcher Taylor Riekeman finished 5-for-8 at the plate with three doubles on the day, including five RBIs in the opener.

Stevie Hooley won her eighth game of the season on the mound with a Game 1-win and Stephanie Maurer scattered five hits and allowed only two runs in Game 2.

Andrea Stratton, Asia Ramsay, Ashley Yackamouih and Hooley doubled in the opener. Maurer tripled in the nightcap.

<b>Glendale 14-10

Oakridge 0-2</b>

OAKRIDGE — Glendale swept the Warriors Saturday, earning the Pirates two road wins and maintaining their perfect record.

Gretchen Owens pitched a near-perfect first game with 10 strikeouts and one walk, giving up no hits. Owens also had a triple and a double, and Jenna Henry had a triple for Glendale.

In the second game the Pirates’ pitching wasn’t as spectacular and they had trouble batting against slower pitching but the Glendale defense prevented the Warriors from taking advantage.

Owens and Henry both had a triple and a double, Zoe Brown had two doubles, and Rori Lovemark had a double. Mary Saxon had a double for Oakridge.

Glendale (10-0 overall, 7-0 in league) hosts Riddle Tuesday.

Days Creek 0-2</b>

MONROE — The Wolves only posted two total runs and fell to Monroe in a lopsided double header sweep.

Christy Stone struck out five batters and walked two in Game 1, but Days Creek (3-4 league) made seven errors and only managed one hit. Monroe’s starting pitcher fanned 10 batters and only walked two.

Days Creek, which used three junior varsity players in the games, kept it closer in the nightcap. K’Dean Ramos, who hit a double in Game 2, took the loss. Stephanie Rogers added a double. The Wolves host Yoncalla at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Crow 1-3</b>

YONCALLA — Amber Mast pitched two complete games en route to a MountainView Conference sweep over Crow.

Mast fanned eight batters in Game 1, and struck out four and avoided a walk in the nightcap.

Heather McDonald hit a double and triple in the opener. Crow committed five errors and Yoncalla (4-5 Mountain View) outhit the squad 9-2. Ashley Mast belted a triple in Game 2.
