On Tuesday, April 22, 2008 Clyde Alvin Fox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend peacefully left this world surrounded by his family. Clyde was born on November 6, 1909 in Kime, Missouri. He came to Oregon in 1935 and settled in Merrill, Oregon where he resided for 50 years. Clyde met his wife of almost 69 years at a high school dance. On August 18, 1938, Clyde was wed to Mary Catherine Lacey. They made their home in Merrill. Together they raised their family and farmed, first potatoes and later onions for many years. Clyde was an innovator as an onion farmer, inventing and fabricating several pieces of time-saving, specialized machinery. An avid sportsman, Clyde was an accomplished trap shooter, winning many multi-state, divisional, and local championships, including both ATA and PITA events. Clyde received a Remington medallion for hitting 462 consecutive trap targets. In his later years, Clyde excelled in bowling and golf, winning numerous trophies and awards. In 1969, Clyde and Mary retired to Brookings, Oregon where Clyde became a successful steelhead/salmon fisherman. Even after the loss of his sight in 1976, he remained a successful fisherman with the help of family and friends. He also returned to his true calling, growing a large and bountiful garden. In 2002, Clyde and Mary moved to Roseburg, Oregon, where they were cared for by their daughter, Hazel. Clyde is survived by his sisters, Gladys Diley and Hazel Newman; his son, Jamie Fox; daughters, Hazel, Mara Lamm and her husband, Larry; grandsons, Brent Lamm and his wife, Nicole; Bo'Donovan Lamm and his wife, Brandi; great-grandson, Ever Douglas Lamm; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, William and Minnie; two sisters, Virgie and Blanche; and four brothers, Roy, Ora, Emmett, and Leonard. At Clyde's request there will be no funeral services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Oregon State Library, Talking Book and Braille Services, 250 Winter Street NE, Salem, OR 97301-3950.
