SUTHERLIN: Two semitrucks collided Thursday on Interstate 5, sending two men to the hospital.
At 10:50 p.m., Santokh Sing Khera, 53, of Maple, Ontario, Canada, was driving a 2007 Freight tractor-trailer north in the slow lane at Milepost 138, according to an Oregon State Police news release. Melvin R. Woods, 48, of Wilderville was driving a 1998 Freightliner tractor-trailer behind Khera. Woods passed Khera and re-entered the slow lane in front of him. For unknown reasons, Khera’s semi then crashed into Woods’ truck.
Khera and a passenger, Ajit Singh Bar, 27, of Brandon, Ontario, were taken to Mercy Medical Center. Khera was treated and released, said Mercy spokeswoman Kathleen Nickel. No information was available on Bar. Woods was not hurt.
About 10 gallons of fluid leaked from Khera’s vehicle, forcing closure of the slow lane for awhile. The Oregon Department of Transportation responded for cleanup and traffic control. The Sutherlin Police Department and Oakland Rural Fire District also responded.
