Age 88, of Canyonville, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008. The son of Ralph and Verna Daniels, he was born September 12, 1919 in Renton, Washington, and was raised and educated in Startup, Washington. He served our country in the Pacific Theatre during WWII while in the the U.S. Army. On May 7, 1942, in Portland, Oregon, he was united in marriage to Esther Stephens. After the war, he attended and graduated from Walla Walla College, and later did graduate work at the University of Oregon. In the 1950's, he and Esther moved to Canyonville, where he began a long career as the Forest Glen Hospital administrator. Dan was a former president of the American Osteopathic Hospital Association and was a fellow with the American Hospital Association. He was a very active member of the Canyonville Seventh-day Adventist Church and also served his community as a city council member and mayor. He retired in the 1980's. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and was an avid reader. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Esther; his son, Doug Daniels and his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Diane Queen and her husband, Jack; and Paulette Jackson and her husband, Bob. The Daniels have eight grandchildren, Derek Daniels and Sheridan; Alex Daniels; Becky Kelly and her husband, Gene; Brian Bretz and Holly; Shannon Queen and his wife, Dana; Shelia Kelly and her husband, Mike; Gregory and his wife, Melissa and Shari Jackson; as well as five great-grandchildren, Tayler, Alyssa, Blayke, Kohen and Nathan. He also leaves a brother, David Daniels and his wife, Ruth; and a sister, Mary Ellen Baker. Interment with military rites will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Friends may pay their respects on Thursday, May 15, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Taylor's Family Chapel. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
