“The Crucible” — Support local theater at 7 p.m. tonight at South Umpqua High School Little Theatre, 501 N.W. Chadwick Lane, Tri City. The South Umpqua High School Drama Club’s production of Arthur Miller’s classic drama chronicling the Salem Witch Trials. $3 for adults, $2 for children. BRENDA BLY: TEEN DETECTIVE — It’s the drama club’s final performance at 7:30 p.m. tonight on the Glide Middle School stage. The Glide High School Drama Club presents its spring musical. Pre-sale tickets include dessert at 7 p.m. and are $7 for adults; $5 for children/students. Cost of the play only is $4 for adults and $2 for students or children.

HIKE TAHKENITCH DUNES — For an all day hike, meet at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot, Fowler Street, Roseburg— the carpool meeting for the Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club. The club will hike the moderate 6.5-mile loop from Tahkenitch Campground, about nine miles north of Reedsport, through coastal forest to the beach and back. Bring lunch, water, wet weather gear and expect to share gas expenses. 672-2172.

FREE HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION — Safely dispose of hazardous materials from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Yoncalla High School. Household hazardous waste that will be collected includes cleaners, solvents, batteries, oil paint, thermometers (receive a free digital one with delivery of mercury one), pesticides, herbicides, fluorescent lights, auto products, motor oil and more. SOUTHERN OREGON’S GOLD AND TREASURE SHOW — There’s gold in these hills. Learn how to find it from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Douglas Hall, Douglas County Fairgrounds. The show will feature vendors from several western states with prospecting equipment, tools and books on the subject. There will be dealers in jewelry, rocks, coins, gold and scuba equipment. The Douglas County Prospectors club will have a gold panning booth for all ages. Admission is $2. Children 11 and younger will be admitted free. Coupon for $1 off at Bi-Mart stores. 672-2936.
CLOTHING COLLECTION — Students will be collecting duds from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Wal-Mart, 2125 N.W. Stewart Parkway, Roseburg. Umpqua Community College students will collect clothes, especially sizes 6 to 8, and toiletries for needy students at a local elementary school. 680-2378.

INTERNATIONAL CULINARY EXPERIENCE — Learn about and taste food from around the world from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Wildlife Safari, 1790 Safari Road, Winston. Creative Catering will prepare food from different regions of the world. There will be wine, culture and entertainment.
