SCOTTSBURG — A missing Medford man was found dead Saturday off of Loon Lake Road after a search by Douglas County Search and Rescue crews.
Family members of James Arthur McCoy, 57, had not heard from the man since April 22, when he was last known to be in the Reedsport area looking for work, according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Family members reported the man missing to the Medford Police Department, and officials there notified the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities learned that McCoy’s vehicle had been towed from Loon Lake Road near Milepost 1 on May 14 by a deputy who found it abandoned.
On Wednesday, deputies searched the area where the vehicle had been, but found no trace of McCoy. On Thursday, U.S. Coast Guard officials flew over the Mill Creek area near Loon Lake, but found nothing.
On Saturday, search and rescue crews did a ground search in the area where the vehicle had been. Around 11:30 a.m., they found McCoy’s body on a forest road, about a quarter-mile from Loon Lake Road, according to the press release.
The cause of the man’s death remains under investigation. No foul play is suspected at this time. McCoy did suffer from a heart condition and high blood pressure, according to the press release.
