Eeyore had nothing to be depressed about at last Saturday’s Douglas County Lamb Show.
Eeyore and his friend, Winnie the Pooh, were all smiles after being judged as the cutest in the Decorator Class. Winnie was played by Amelia Murphy, a 3-year-old from Roseburg, and Eeyore was Patch, a 4-month-old Cheviot lamb. The Winnie outfit was store bought, but the Eeyore costume for Patch was homemade by Amelia’s great aunt, Coleen Murphy, of Sutherlin.
Amelia and Patch beat out plenty of other cute competition: A boy dressed as a cowboy while his lamb with a saddle was his horse; a girl was strawberry shortcake and her lamb was a pony; a boy was the man on the moon while his lamb was covered in stars; a girl and her lamb were soccer teammates, bothing wearing soccer t-shirts and shin guards; a boy was spongebob and his lamb was Patrick; a girl and her lamb were Minnie and Mickey respectively; and a girl was Little Red Riding Hood and her lamb was the big, bad wolf in grandma’s outfit.
The 11 entries and their lambs were Amelia and Patch, Zach Rushworth, age 8, and Cookie, Morgan Ponder, 21 months, and Tank, Bethany Buckley, 5, and Mary, Hannah Quimby, 3, and Honey Pie, Grace Mansanti, 8, and Leader, C.J. Wells, 9, and Bubba, Nick Castillo, 6, and Lucky, Asia Huffine, 7, and Nila, Noel Krissie, 7, and Josh, and Megan Baird, 6, and DC.
Amelia, the daughter of Pat and Abbie Murphy, is from a family with years of sheep ranching in its background. Her great grandparents are Jim and Bonnie Pynch of the Dixonville area and her second cousin Jordan Pynch had the grand champion lamb in the market judging done earlier Saturday.
